Yikes now they are saying it is unsettling that people are allowed to fly over Manhattan whenever they want.

So who wants to bet how long it will take for them to place an ADIZ over NYC and probably other major cities soon?

You had to know it was only a matter of time before that would happen

Haven't they been pushing for one for the past year or so up in the NYC area?

I know AOPA had something about trying to prevent it because of the thought that it would lead to every major city getting the ADIZ around it.

I was wondering the same thing...first it was a heli, then it was a fixed single, then a fixed multi...

Doesn't the Cirrus have that parachute to compensate for its easy entry into a spin? I could see someone looking at the sights out there doing the 180 you are talking about, then getting slow, stall, and spin low to the ground. I would imagine it wouldn't be much different than a base to final turn.

CNN has a controller and he's just talking out of his @ss. This is ridiculous. He actually said that with the plane departing TEB the tower controllers wouldn't of switched him off their freq.

#1 Class D they don't tell you to change freq, you just DO IT
#2 TEB's airspace is far far away from where the plane hit

I seriously wish CNN would actually interview people who KNEW what they were talking about.

I like how CNN sells their gore. This is the title of a link on their site to a video "(Watch the orange flames ravage the apartment"). I mean when pitch it to me like THAT of course i wanna watch!

I just saw 2 F-15s fly by here in LAS. They never fly over this part of Vegas. Im guessing its a patrol of the area.

It's obvious to me, there can be no more GA aviation ever, anywhere. We might be able to allow special people, with special permits to fly over special unihabited areas of Montana and the High Plains states....but, they'll need to go through a complete Top Secret background check. Other than that, it's completely unsafe and all GA aircraft are weapons of mass destruction and should be sent to the scrap yard.

We need to have fighters scrambled 24-7-365........Time to take out Dr. Jones and his Baron!!!!

do I even need to

Well the MSNBC guy mentioend that if the wings had broken off (more speculation), it could possibly look like a helicopter, which I can sort of see.

But then he mentioned something about jet fuel leaking down the side of the building. Do they make turbine SR-20s?

On the plus side, at least pilots would become more rare, and (you would think) salaries would go up.

I came back from a flight, and someone told me a plane hit a building in NY.

My first words were 'How big of a plane?'

It's nice to see the media playing it like 9/11 just happened all over.

I'm not sure how anyone can find out/say that the aircraft was registered to Cory Lidle when the event happened just an hour or two ago. But, if that is the case, then here is a quote for you guys from the man himself when he purchased his SR-20 for $187,000

Even though it may have nothing to do with it, this adds to my thought that a parachut on an aircraft will make the pilot believe the aircraft is invincible.

So after a few decades of no one learning how to fly, who would fly our precious airliners? Is that when the computers take over?

Ouch, they said they found the baseball players passport on the street below.

Well, they're at the wreckage . . . wouldn't be hard to figure out at that point.

That's true, I just usually think that the n-number would be one of the first things to melt off.

What in the world was he doing flying on a day like today (if he was not Instrument rated) in the NYC area? What an idiot.

http://www.phillyburbs.com/pb-dyn/ne...06-670010.html ,

heres an article where the apparent pilot talks about his low flying time. Didnt look like great VFR today, wonder if he was messing with the autopilot.

the spin from the news certainly doesent help general aviation any, sounds to me like marginal VFR mixed with a low time private pilot.

Anyone checked Liveatc.net to listen to the TEB archives?

Got to love the news......How many SR20's are multi-engine.....

Quote:
NEW YORK -- A small plane piloted by New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan's Upper East Side, raining flaming debris onto the sidewalks below and rattling New Yorkers' nerves five years after the Sept. 11 attack.

Lidle died in the crash.

The twin-engine plane came through a hazy, cloudy sky and hit the 20th floor of The Belaire -- a red-brick tower overlooking the East River, about five miles from the World Trade Center -- with a loud bang, touching off a raging fire that cast a pillar of black smoke over the city and sent flames shooting from four windows on two adjoining floors.
In no means is this intended to poke fun at the accident, just the lovely press.

RIP
