Default A few laughs...

A friend of mine sent this to me, and I figured I'd share it with everyone....

10 Ways You Know If You Are A Pilot
----------------------------------------------------

10- When you get distracted by a 172 flying overhead

9- When you begin to wish your car stereo could pick up tower frequencies

8- When you describe the WX as VFR or IFR...

7- When you begin thinking about buying an airplane instead of a new car.

6- When your regional automated Flight Service Station is on your cell's speedial.

5- When your shorthand for cities becomes their ICAO airport code.

4- When you get extremely moody that you cannot find your sunglasses before a 4 day summer trip.

3- When you begin to get mad at controllers for not knowing exactly what you want without you telling them.

2- When you hear an airplane VMC speed, you begin to analyze the airplanes potential problems during flight, without ever having flow the airplane.

And the number 1 reason you know you're a pilot....

1- If you get on FlightAware for fun.

One sure way that nobody else uses your class notes.

That, or do what I did and have really bad handwriting. So when lazy people want your notes they can't read a word of them

Seriously. My handwriting sucks. I learned to type when I was 8, on an Apple IIe, and never looked back. My handwriting never really progressed past that of an 8 year old.

That was definitely not written by someone who does it for a living.

The only thing that I do off that list is refer to cities in writing by their airport codes. That's probably out of sheer lazyness. It takes less effort to type MSP than it does to type Minneapolis.

Number 4: I can't go anywhere without my sunglasses. They are a part of my eyes now and my corneas will burn a horrible instant death if I don't have my sunglasses on. In fact, I feel completely naked without them (and believe me, you don't want to see me that way)

Top ten signs you fly for a living:

10. You read internet message forums when you get out of work and bitch about your job.

9. You then go and talk with your friends back home and when they ask you tell them that you enjoy what you do.

8. You get really pissed off when somebody says, "Flying is so cool, I'd do it for free!"

7. You get even more pissed off when somebody says, "I didn't want to flight instruct, I just did this great program down in Flordia with Gulfstream International Airlines!"

6. Your friends complain about only making $35,000 a year. They don't understand what you mean when you tell them you only cleared $10,000 a year flight instructing. They accuse you of lying.

5. You've moved from one coast to the other in a 9 month period to chase a job.

4. You either live in a hotel (during initial) or with 8 people (during probation).

3. You think that when you finally hit second year pay at a regional and you're pulling down $30,000 you've hit a frigging gold mine and you can finally start to save some cash.

2. You stop looking up at every Cessna that goes by.

1. You DO look up at jets, but instead of thinking to yourself, "Wow self, that's a really sweet 737-800 series. It even has winglets and an EFIS display! That'd sure be fun to fly!" you think to yourself, "Wow, look at the pay rate and work rules on that thing! I can't wait until I make decent money to do this for a living" and go back to pre-flighting your RJ or Chieftain.

JT609 -

So true. Sad but true. I still love flying and I wouldn't want to do anything else (unless Playboy ran short on photographers or I could make $100K a year reading books at Barnes and Noble.) But your list is definitely for the career pilot...the first one is for folks who are still in flight school or do it on the weekend. This has actually kind of struck a chord with me, if I may continue. In the last year, I have move 3 times...Denver, Huntington Beach, and Honolulu. First year pay anywhere sucks and I miss owning a car. I left everything I own on the mainland and it still bothers me a little bit that my company doesn't have jumpseat agreements with anyone. But, I made my bed and I know that this doesn't last forever. I hate to complain but it just kind of struck me today when I was stuck in traffic on a borrowed moped in the rain. I still get to surf when I can get to the beach...I better not complain too loud.

Sounds like we are in the same boat...I wonder what people did before craigslist???? I found a roommate and I am shopping for a car right now. Moving sucks but I've finally got all of my stuff down to where it fits in two suitcases and I could leave in the middle of the night if I need to. Luckily, I haven't held up a bank in a while (otherwise, i wouldn't have to worry about paying back student loans.
