Default Alaska Airlines

A quick look at the payscale for Alaska Airlines:

We see that the pay for captains is high from the start. I'm not sure how upgrade times are at the company, but seeing how the scale starts high for captains tells me the higher wage is indicative of possibly long upgrade times. Is this the case, or does anyone know how the scene is looking at the company?

Alaska Airlines seems like a good place to work, and it seems like connections are pretty good for the students at our school. They usually come to give presentations of their company to us, and they seem like they're doing well. (of course, every company is going to want to advertise itself as being one of the best, but I believe I've heard mostly good things about them)

Anyone here know any current news about them or perhaps know someone that works at the company?

The only thing I don't like much about Alaska Airlines is their limited routes. I would like something more on the international level for a major airline.

I've searched the forums accordingly, but was looking to see if anything had changed.

Why does Alaska come to UND? A graduate from UND isn't going to have the hours or experience to be immediately hired into the right seat of an Alaskan plane. I know that Horizon gives preferential hiring to UND students. That seems more logical to me...

Yeah, I don't think Alaska Airlines would be considering pilots with piston time.

I'm not sure what made you guys think that's what I was referring to...Alaska Airlines doesn't come here to hire UND students...Alaska Airlines comes here to talk about their company for those interested in the future. Furthermore, many UND grads work at Alaska and some of the presenters are UND alumni. Horizon, does, however, come to hire at UND.

My question was regarding Alaska Airlines, and not its sister Horizon of course.

Any input?

Am I nuts or did I read something recently that Alaska was dumping Horizon for the regional feeder service?

It'd be cool if you had a relative that worked for Alaska!

We had a guy who is upgrading right now come into class to say hi. He's been with the company 7 years. There are a lot of retirements coming up, so that number may get smaller, but not by much. Alaska never grows real fast, so there won't be much movement. There are new 737-800s on order, but those are to replace the MD-80s.

From what I've seen, the pilots that Alaska is hiring have several years Pt. 121 PIC or extensive military backgrounds.

Thanks, that's what I was wondering and what I thought!
Are you a new hire, btw?
