| Do Jepp charts expire... Does Jepp charts expire every 56 days like NOS charts or is each plate switched out on its individual revision date? |

| Re: Does Jepp charts expire... You just have to check the date of the plate against the list of effective pages of your airway manual (if you're motivated enough to do that) The LOEP pages are replaced every two weeks.

However from a practical perspective I see your point.
Jepps don't expire - they are good until replaced. |

| Re: Do Jepp charts expire... Mostly changes on the 10-9 and 10-9B pages. That, and I think they re-did all the DPs. I sure as hell had a lot of crap to revise last week....

| Re: Do Jepp charts expire... All of the charts are good even if a new one has been issued, as long you are aware of any notam'd changes that have occurred. Technically speaking, there is no difference between having a chart you got just yesterday with a new notam out and one that is a year old with 10 notam'd changes over that period of time - as long as you have all those notams!
All of this issue has really come to light with our change to LIDO charts. Also, what has been interesting is the amount of error in the various types of charts which are very easy to miss unless you happen to be comparing one to the other (i.e. Jepp to LIDO to NOS). It's really pretty incredible! I can only imagine what we'd find if we also had AERAD to look at! I have learned to really check all those notams, and then check them again! From what I have seen, none of the various chart publishing entities have the corner on doing it right, or wrong! Saw one example where the Jepp chart would have shown the right NPA mins, but it wasn't until you looked at LIDO that you discovered the ILS was NA, but LIDO had some other mins wrong, as they had been changed in an unpublished notam, apparently (it really was not published, too, just a verbal that the local controllers gave out!). Somehow, Jepp got word of the change in mins, but Jepp never got the official NOTAM on the ILS, which had passed the FDC stage and should have been in chart notams, but nada! All of this due to FAA not doing their job, I think.
Yes, you should be scared! |
