| Senior Member | Seems to be a good way to knock out both your ratings and a degree at the same time... I looked at them and had some questions answered. You still get to participate in college activities such as be nominated for honor societies that sort of thing which is what I want IF I decide to do a distance program after community college. |

| this is what it's like if somebody wants to do this thru my flight school...you can become an instructor 18 months after finishing high school. instruct while earning additional ratings and going online to learn when you have the opportunity. though I have heard there's intense math classes involved (remember, just what i heard) ![]() hope this helps |

| Junior Member | I take the classes online, ive got one more semester left. math classes are easssy. so long as you have college algebra done, then you are done with math. go online to uvsc.edu and look at the programs you need to take. i took most of my general ed classes at a local community college and transfered those credits over. its tough to take gen eds online. try lighting a Bunsen burner in your kitchen. but flight classes are easy, you take a ground and flight class for each rating you achieve. they consist of 1-3 tests online that arent timed and you can look at the test as many times as you want until youre ready to submit it. it's the way to go if you need to work, fly anddd go to school. and if you hate math... and most other general education classes. |

| Senior Member | I was looking at them but I wasn't quite sure how well the whole on-line thing worked. For instance; do you learn as much (including the random off topic stuff that pops up), can you go ahead and finish a class early? or join one late? And can you take their bachlors completely over the internet? Right now I'm going to a "local" community college (Long Beach City) and was thinking on transfering to CSULA for a bachlors, then maby a masters thru ERAU (in-class or online). I know the benefits of online classes but I'm not quite sure if they outweigh the negatives.

you can keep your work and flying schedule and work your classes whenever you have time. find friends that might be doing the same program as you and take the same classes together so you can ... help... eachother (but not doing tests... that'd be wronggg) if you get a degree in aviation, classes are easier than going to a regular college. good way to get a good gpa.. just another thing to throw on a resume. negatives. some gen ed classes are pretty hard online. you usually dont learn much from teh aviation classes, you might, but youll probably just do just enough to pass the class with a good grade. if its an aviation degree you won't have any backup with your degree. if you dont understand something you have to figure it out yourself, or email the instructor and wait a few days for a response. be self motivated, or else youll play catchup at the end of the semester trying to finish everything at 1230am when its due at 1am. you can do everything online, it's a self paced program. some classes do have deadlines though for assignemnts or tests. if you want to join late it has to be within like a week or two of the beginning of the semester and you need to get approval from the instructor. just give them some sob story and they'll let you in. i seemingly have to do that every semester. im sure people could thing of more positives and negatives, but thats a few off the top of my head. | |

| Can you get a 4 year thru these guys? Thanks |
| |
| | #11 |
| Senior Member | Yes. http://www.uvscaviation.com I've thought about completing my B.S. through them as well. Doing online classes requires a certain degree of discipline, and can be even more time demanding than on-campus. You've got to set yourself a schedule you can stick to. But it's doable, and the flexibility is a big plus. |

| Junior Member | I hated it. Its basically : Give them a load of money and you get a list of books to buy and questions to answer... The few classes I took that were a little more evolved than that ( the aviation ones for instance ) were TOO EASY. I had a really bad experience with them...

| Junior Member | a load of money? it's fairly cheap compared to most colleges. a schedule? i procrastinate more than anyone i know. assignments will be due on a friday by 1am mountain time on the last day of the semester, and ill be there, the last day of the semester until 12:59am mountain time doing my work, and i have a pretty good gpa, so its pretty easy. most of the aviation classes you dont need to buy a book.. well.. actually, i have yet to buy any aviation books at all. the only books ive bought through UVSC is History 1700, Health, and Philosophy. they give you lessons to read online that might be around 6 pages long, and it sums everything up that would be on your quiz. about 5 % of the questions might come from a text book rather than through the lessons. and i mean 5% of ALL aviation classes. its a 4 year degree, granted it's an aviation degree, but its cheap and easy. online courses are good for some people, and bad for others. |

| Right now Im at Utah State University doing a AV degree and Im finding more and more that a University setting just dosn't work for me. I need a little more freedom I think. Maybe I should do something like this and go to Flight Safety Acadamy? |

| Old Skool | I have two semesters left in the UVSC bachelors of aviation science program. The online aviation classes are excellent, you can do them on your schedule, either at the last second of the semester or finish the whole class on the first day of the semester, I have done both. I actually live five minutes from UVSC campus but the Online classes are the way to go. I have heard people bag on these programs, but you really get what you put into it. This semester I have 15 credit hours and have already completed all but one of my classes already and have till the second week of december to finish that one. |

| Old Skool | UVSC doesnt really "partner" with anyone as far as I know, everybody just refers their students to UVSC since they will accept anybody that has a pulse and the $25 application fee. Once your credit card is approved you go right to the print your acceptance letter page so you can frame it and give it to your parents. As far as I know they are the only fully accredited 4 year program that can be done entirely online though. When I finish I will have completed my BS in aviation science in 5 semesters (not including generals). |

| I was in Little Rock the other day and the FBO had a big UVSC banner. Checking out the UVSC website, they don't list the schools that partner with them, for some reason. There is lot's of info about how a flight school can join up with them. I'm sure there is some cost which you have to call them to find out about. |

| UVSC charges $60 per challenge hour to get credit for you ratings. They give you up to about 32 hours for them. Private, Commerical, Instrument, CFI. I decided to do Embry Riddles Distance learning because while UVSC only transfer 9 of my hours, ER transfered 22. They also GIVE you 35 hours at no charge for full ratings. The hours at ERDL is about $50 more per hour I it will cost me about the same or just a little less but it's taking off 60 hours and 2-3 years off the time to graduate.

| DE727UPS, You mean you stopped off at Central Flying Service? I go by there all the time. I know the banner you are talking about. Stephens Financial used to fly their 8-10 jets out of there. Then I heard Stephens got mad at CFS and bought out a competiting FBO and is building a huge multi-million brand new FBO. Should be sweet.

| Yeah, it was Central. For a while, I thought I was going to need an insurance checkout in my new Apache. The chief instructor at CFS was a really nice guy and was gonna hook me up but the second time I called Avemco they said I didn't need a checkout. So I hopped in and off I went. I was pretty impressed with CFS. They treated me quite well during a very confusing, stressful, day. |

| Junior Member | How hard/easy is it to take a full load, say 18 credit hours, at Utah Valley, or ERAU? Since the classes are self paced, for the most part, does it make it easier than if you were actually going to schedules classes everyday on campus? What does Utah Valley cost compared to Embry Riddle. I am trying to decide between the two. --> Cost for online, not attending campus. -Thanks. |
