Default dry rates return to our school

any other flight schools out there running on dry rates ? our school recently decided to figure the price of dry rate then add fuel on a separate line. i guess most of our students are getting confused about the fuel surcharge and this will be the way to alleviate it. I’m not sure what this will do for the school, if anything at all.

I personally think dry rates are a win-win for students and the school.

Students:
Won't have to pay the price for others not using the aircraft as efficiently that the school has to compesate for by raising everyones prices. Also, if you are building time you can pull the power WAAAY back and save a lot of gas while the hobbs clicks over. No sense paying for more for going slower and building more time!

School:
Fixed income rate that won't vary with the fluxuation of fuel. Aircraft aren't abused as much (ie less power while in cruise, no "rental power", long slow decents to maximize decent fuel savings which would reduce engine shock cooling).

That being said, if students aren't familiar with proper leaning procedures (ie leaning to PEAK EGT instead of either side of it) this could cause mx headaches.

Also, I would think it might cause some delays in pre/post flight because as a student I would want to confirm how much fuel *exactly* is in the tanks before and after the flight. Be it by filling all the way up at the beginning and end of the lesson or whatever.

But overall, I always liked the idea of dry rates.
