 |  Flying with a dog Hey everyone! I'm taking a trip from Nashville to Memphis on Saturday (about a 1.5 trip in the DA-40) and I'm taking my dog with me. I've never flown with her, she does fine in the car though. She's a six month old beagle. Have any of you had experience flying with pets? Did you give them anything to chill them out? All the websites I have found talk about airline travel with pets with no mention of general aviation travel!

| Senior Member  | Re: Flying with a dog I'm sure you've already thought of this, but make sure its OK with the folks at the FBO to have a dog in the plane. I'd recommend some trying out some pattern work before showing up for a cross-country and having to return and figure out what to do with a freaked-out dog while you go flying. Still, odds are s/he'll be fine, if not a little deafer, for the flight.

| Re: Flying with a dog Hey man, I take my golden retriever flying all the time. Her name is sky. She does well in the air for the most part, she like to squeeze her head between me and my girlfriend, b/c sky likes to see forward. if it is going to be turbulent I give her a pill and a half of dramamine, to keep her stomach calm. VET OKd. But check with your vet for dosage based on weight. |

| Re: Flying with a dog I was wondering the same thing. I would love to take my dog flying, but I want him to be comfortable with all of the noise. Anyone have any experience with these? http://www.safeandsoundpets.com/index.html I have a golden retriever and am not sure which would bother him more, crazy looking muffs or the noise. -Jason |

| Re: Flying with a dog maybe im deaf but ive never really found it like SCARY loud when i take my headset off to give my cranium a break for a while.... i mean yea its loud, but not painful or where i fear for my hearing at all.... but yeah, maybe im deaf already! :-p

| Re: Flying with a dog If the plane is a rental, make sure it's okay to have a dog in the plane. My uncle took his dogs in his plane with him once. Once. They puked all over everything. Really gross.

| Re: Flying with a dog When I got Bagheera, I flew up to South Jersey Regional to get him. He was fine on the flight back down. I had him in a cat carrier and he was fine in the CFI seat. You know, Cat Flying In (carrier).  So, if an eight week old kitten can deal with it, I think your dog will be okay. Plus a number of people in my flying club have flown with their dogs as well. |

if that doesn't ring any bells then we can call it "that techno music" but yeah, years of going to punk rock shows in HS, then raves and clubs every single weekend for the last 6 years of college..... i dunno, i still pass my 1st class medical hearing tests just fine!

but yeah, i admittedly have a hard time particularly with speech/conversation (TV is also particularly hard for me to distinguish speech), but i can still pass hearing exams no problem. and i can tell you that i KNOW my left ear (headphone ear when spinning) is way more shot than my right ear (monitor ear)...but again, a hearing exam would not confirm those assertions....
