i still find this shocking. i thought there was a system on commercial airliners that let them know of planes in the immediate area and to take immediate action.

TCAS should have been installed on both aircraft. Hopefully, the black boxes will generate some info...

I am not sure what the inputs are for the FDR. Newer aircraft record a bunch of data. I know the CVR would have recorded the TA or RA alerts if the computer issued them.
