| I'm in the process of buying a home so I received a quote from Farmers. When you combine auto and homeowners insurance, they offer great rates. I couldn't believe it because I always assumed Farmers was pretty expensive insurance. Turns out, part of the reason my quoted rates are so good is due to a significant discount for "Professional Aviators". Something to check out anyway. ![]()

| Go ahead and ask your life insurance company if they give discounts to pilots. :P While you're at it, tell them you smoke and regularly go cliff-diving.

| Senior Member | Also, remember find out what discounts you can get THROUGH your insurance company: For instance, I have USAA and with them I get 35% off FedEx; 20% off with Hertz, Budget and Avis, unlimited miles and no charge liability protection; 20% off flowers; If I take a cruise USAA will match the lowest price and then some (although how many cruises am I going to take?), tons of discounts off jewelery; etc. Plus they offer banking services like fee reinbursement for any ATM you use, great rates on CD's loans etc.

I got "the" diamond for about 30% less thru USAA. I didn't know about FedEx, I wonder if they could combine my 75% airline discount with USAA's 35% discount??? My car/renters/VPP insurance is REDICULOUSLY cheaper thru USAA though. Great insurance rates. ![]() I don't use USAA to bank though because you have to mail your checks in. The ATM thing is nice but mailing in checks = PITA (IMO). The 'rents use USAA exclusively though, save for some retirement which is done thru Fidelity.

| Most, if not all, insurance companies will give you discounts if you "bulk" your policies with them. Funny - I actually just dumped Farmer's for Allstate on my car and house because the total ended up being about 40% cheaper for the same coverages. Then again, insurance is weird in Texas. |
