Default Fedex to replace the 727 with the 757

FedEx announced Monday it will buy as many as 90 Boeing 757-200s on the used market to replace its older fleet of smaller and less fuel efficient Boeing 727s.

t's not known at this time where Fedex will buy the planes or if the company will get their planes from more than one source.

Speculation is high that if Boeing were contracted to do the modifications, it would encourage airlines to part with their current 757s in favor of a good deal on the new 787 Dreamliner.

What kind of trips can a new hire expect at Fedex? I heard every kind of rumor from 10-15 day trips, with possibly being extended up to 96 hours, to flying from 12am to 9am. Any truth to that stuff? Seagull?

I'd have to give that one to the DC-8.

Too many variables to answer the question. If you got hired as an MD-11 f/o out of ANC, long trips are possible (but not likely, unless on reserve, as they get grabbed by commuters pretty quick). AM out and backs are possible if you are based in MEM, but they usually are grabbed by people that want those too, so reserve is more likely, meaning any combination of trips that your aircraft type operates, but commuter-friendly trips being less probable (people don't want to give them up). Trips can be extended (into days off), normally due to broken airplanes or something unusual, etc., but you do get paid for it. Doesn't happen that often, in my experience (maybe three times in my 20 years to me) and there are options available if you really need to get home.

I don't think ours are going anywhere anytime soon. In fact, I would be surprised if they're all gone before I retire!

Whats going to happen to the engineers? Are they going to go through F/O ground and sim? I'd imagine many of them would be pretty rusty at this point.
