I hope to go back to the Bro in a year in the left seat. I love that plane. Of course the Rj is more automated but what is the point? One thing I have that the people that haven't been in the Bro at SKYW is enough confidence and knowledge that I am excited, and willing, to upgrade in the Bro. Seriously, if I could flash forward one year from now I will be upgrading and hundreds of people in front of me on the seniority list will be waiting for a left seat opportunity in the RJ. But why? The reason: they are nervous, er, scared, to upgrade in a turboprop. When the last two Captain I have flown with were hired by FedEx and Alaska respectively, why would wait for the RJ?

The Brasilia is a fantastic regional turboprop.

Why are people so scared of the Bro? Or Turboprops in general?

| From what I have been told by my friends....they always say how hard it is to fly, systems etc. When they bumped up into the jet it was always how easy it was to fly, systems, automated blah blah blah. I like the Bro it was the best 40 min back massage going to and from Cedar. If only they had them in ORD. Busy night for SkyW Are they doing checkrides http://flightaware.com/live/airport/KCDC |

I think the point people are trying to make is that it's not a good idea to be picky about aircraft choices--in the long run, it's all turbine time. If you want to be guaranteed to fly a CRJ, there's always GoJets.

| Old Skool | You're always gonna take a paycut when you're making good coin at a regional and jump to a major. But I'd suck it up because as a regional employee you're a franchise for mainline today you have XXX flying. Tomorrow mainline could be saying that XXX can do the flying for cheaper can you beat it, if not were giving them our flying. Won't happen at mainline! |

| Duuuuude. I'm so disappointed in your post. Tell me something: how much current DCI flying used to be flown by mainline crews? Now re-read what you just posted and tell me it makes any sense whatsoever.

One of the main reason that DCI has more former mainline routes is because DL is in bk and their new plan to emerge and be profitable is to focus more of their time and effort on international travel and opening up new routes. DCI flying has always typically been profitable for both the franchise carrier and mainline.

Also, my buddy who jumped ship this summer to SKYW already has a line and I'm still on reserve. Nevertheless, the proposed 900 pay rates were voted down. I will admit I wasn't eligible to vote when it happened, but I'm very proud of my fellow pilots here. YO Ethan, what's up ROOOOOMMMMMMBBBBA!?!? Edit: We have that whole union deal so we get to vote on things instead of the company just telling us what equipment we will be flying. I'm not a big fan of ALPA and they're not on our side on lots of issues, but it's nice when management asks you to fly bigger equipment for less money. Here's another question for SKYW pilots, do you get paid 200 rates to fly the 200, 700 for the 700, etc?

Personally I don't want 'em here because I'd like to move on to make more money somewhere else at the "next" level. I know if we don't get them someone else will, and as BobDDuck says, "The slide continues."

This is like poking fun at the UPS pilots for having one rate. Ok, they do. But their one rate is higher than pretty much any carrier out there for any type of equipment. Same thing with skywest (as far as us FO's go). I'm not a skywest pilot, but at awac there is one rate for the -200's and (nonexistant) -700's. Not only that, but we as noob pilots have NOTHING to do with the current rates, so slinging mud is a moot point (and in this case just makes PSA look bad).

I know all about having nothing to do with the current rates. I chose to come here because I have family in and around the Charlotte area. I know I may not upgrade for quite some time and I've been on reserve the entire time I've been here. Yes, I'm happy at PSA and I'm not a negative person, but this place is far from perfect. Not slinging mud at all, I apologize if it appeared that way. I'm sure SkyWest is a greay place to work, my friends who work there keep trying to get me to jump ship but I'm happy living in base and I don't want to go back to first year pay. I'll just ride things out here and see how things go.

I think California is a big reason why a lot of people don't want to fly the 'bro, especially since many 121 guys are coming from the midwest/east coast. Why would they want to commute to Fresno? Who wants to move to Cali and pay $300,000 for a hole in the ground after paying $150,000 in the midwest for a nice 3 bedroom house with a bonus room on a 3/4 acre lot...

Hey GaTech, do you work for Colgan? Do you guys do a runup every morning? I was in ABE and I saw the plane leave and come right back and my CA and I used the little amount of reasoning we had at 5am to think that maybe you did.

That's correct. I'm not sure how the guys at ABE do it, but at BUF we have to be driven to a parking space every morning where we do our run-up. We then reposition to the gate. Cruise would know what goes on at ABE since he's based there.

Gotcha, thanks! Ready for the winter in BUF? My wife is from there and it's a little too cold and snowy for us now. I'm from Chi-town and neither one of us can take the cold up there any more. I do love Chippewa and Ancohor Bar! |
