Exclamation Panic As Captain Quits Holiday Jet

PANIC AS CAPTAIN QUITS HOLIDAY JET

BY HUGO BERGER H.BERGER

10:40 - 15 September 2006
Passengers on an airliner bound for Bristol were plunged into panic when their captain refused to fly them home, telling them the aircraft was unsafe. Evening Post readers on board the flight from Antalya in Turkey say a "mini-riot" broke out after the pilot walked into the cabin and made his dramatic announcement, then walked off the plane.

Maybe it was unsafe in his opinion. That is his perogatory as the PIC. I know of several incidents where a captain was supposed to fly an airplane and wouldnt.

Sounds like a Bush-ism.

Why were people panicking?

Probably because a reserve captain was about to fly them on their way. It sounds like this guy had an axe to grind with his company.

I'm not so sure.

You're paid to make tough decisions and if the aircraft is unairworthy but the company is still pressing you to fly it against your best judgement, step off the airplane.

Had to do it at my last company in GRR.

I'm a professional, it's what I get paid to do.
