Default Furloughed & Free Type Ratings

Well, the word finally came down. I am officially done in a few days.

Does anyone have any information on how to get a free type rating from the government? Preferably, in the State of Michigan.

Thanks

Ouch, sorry to hear that bro! But you're in good hands, we'll get something figured out for ya!

I know MDPilot was on furlough for a bit.

A lot of furloughed guys, not necessarily him, were able to get grants for type ratings. He'd probably at least know where to point you. If he can't help, let me know and I'll ask my airlines furlough coordinator and see what information he has.

A good friend of ours got his Citation type courtesy of the state of Missouri after his furlough from AA.

I'll send him an email and ask how he went about it.

I hate furloughs. I'm so sorry it's happening to you

Here's one snippet of information:

Quote:
To: ALL PILOTS

From: Furlough Admin

Subject: Reposting of WIA Information:

This has been on the FPSN since 2-12-02.

JOB TRAINING GRANTS (FLYING AND NON-FLYING) Workforce Investment Act (WIA) www.doleta.gov/usworkforce helps furloughed pilots get type ratings, especially B-737 type ratings. This program is federally funded but distributed by the individual states. Some states will pay for all the training; others will only pay for some. The basic flow: you must start at your county level. Visit your county offices (same office that does Pell Grants, etc.) and ask about information on WIA. You must convince the agency that you need this rating to get another job. Southwest Airlines is frequently used as an example because it requires the rating. Funding can be difficult, but is possible to receive. For your states information call 877-872-5627.

For your state’s information please refer to:

And another:

Quote:

737 Type Ratings

If you are interested in obtaining a 737 type rating, PremAir can help.

The owner of PremAir, George Winkleseth, (ex-Continental Pilot) is well aware of the plight of the furloughed pilot. He has put together a program to provide you a type rating, with funding through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

100% funding is possible, depending on your state.

PremAir can help you work with your state's WIA office to obtain available funding.

Ground training is in Phoenix, with simulator training in Atlanta, Orlando, or Seattle.

Please Contact PremAir at 877-377-9222, details. Ask for Peggy, Doug or Julie

More information on WIA is available at www.naco.org/programs/social/work/getstate.cfm or 877-872-5627.
If Kristie or I can be of help, PM me and I'll send our contact information to you. Good luck and kick ass, bro.

Unfortunately, most of that money was sent to the states in direct response to 9-11 loss of pilot jobs, therefore if you can't show a job loss connection to 9-11, you're out of luck. But in the end, it's all up to your state's unemployment office, they are the one to contact for more info.
