Default Met LoadMasterC141 yesterday!

"Aren't you ExpressJet Bob?"

Those were the words I heard as I came out of the flight deck of an American Airlines MD-80 yesterday...

Yesterday my 4-day trip ended in Minneapolis... I could have taken a Deadhead flight on Continental back to my base in Houston... but instead... like most other commuters... I chose to find my own way home to DFW from MSP.

My flight arived in MSP at 1:50... and I knew there would be a 2:10 flight on AA back to DFW just a few gates down. So... I rush to the gate, get a Jumpseat Pass and as per protocol go down to the flight deck and ask the Captains permission to jumpseat home on his flight.

As I was walking off the flight deck... I see this guy who is boarding, looking me up and down... and then he asks... "You aren't ExpressJet Bob, are you?" I said "Yeah... I am..."

He introduces himself as our very own LoadMasterC141!! He was in MSP on business and going home to Temple via DFW.

We spoke after the flight in DFW until his connection started boarding... what a great guy! It's so nice to put a face to the folks on here.

It's been said before... and I'll repeat it here... Aviation is truly a small world.

Jeremy, thanks for taking the time to chat with me and tell me more about your situation. You have a good plan and a supporting wife... that's so very important in any career change. I wish you luck in the future with your goals and dreams!

Keep flying safe... and thanks for taking the time to ask if I was who you thought I was...

Bob

Oh boy, there's a joke there, I just can't pull the trigger!

Location, Location, Location...

Kidding aside, aviation is a small world. Smaller than I thought.

Cap'n Bob,

Are you familiar with Linekin Bay or Booth Bay Harbor?

Aviation is a TINY world, which is why I always talk about networking and not making an enormous ass of yourself online.

A couple days ago I was on my second to last leg, doing a SLC-SEA-SLC turn and the nice couple in the back of the aircraft happened to be USMCMech, wife and kid.

Apparently, we're all Scott's "Imaginary Friends"

I remember when I had a mini JC cookout... We had tons of burgers & brats & beer... and I invited all these people I'd never met before... but my wife didn't know that until like 5 minutes before they all showed up...

Her: So when are they going to get here?
Me: Soon... I don't know...
Her: Someone just pulled up... is that one of your friends?
Me: (looking out the window) Um... I don't know...
Her: What do you mean, "you don't know?"

Thank goodness everyone was super cool! Made my wife feel at ease after she met everyone!

Boothbay... yes... best Double Double Chocolate Ice Cream cone I've ever had! Flown over it many times... and did an afternoon windjammer cruise there as well. It's a great family place, but there's also some wonderful B&B's for a nice weekend on the ocean with your significant other.

I have yet to run into anyone unknown to me from the board yet. Though I wonder how I'd react if someone said "hey aren't you that Max guy from Jetcareers?"

I sign autographs at the Borders in Tempe every Saturday from 2-4pm!

My Grandmother knows the Branch family who runs the Linekin Bay Resort. We spent many vacacations there when I was a kid. You could walk over to Booth Bay from there.

Great family place. http://www.linekinbayresort.com/

By the way, we had some JC members at our house too! Amber set it up of course...

Doug, It's ME! (Mr MQ)

I knew Nance before she knew Jeff!

I Flew Canyon Tours with Nance @ Scenic in LAS. Although she was Captain, I had quadruple the actual instrument time she had. It became a running joke because we were always paired together when the weather was bad. We were @ TWA with El Jeffe.

What's really wierd is I grew up a thousand miles away From Nancy, but about 50 from Jeff...

I've been stealthy with my posts the last few years.

Nice... I'll have to look that up! We still go back every spring and fall. My AME is in Portland so that gives me an excuse to get back up there for my medical. Still trying to move back soon too...

Oh I know who you are, bro!

I just didn't draw the connection with Nance and Jeff until last week and I didn't know what your roots were because I presumed you were in the midwest because of MQ!

We oughta play "Six Degrees of Scenic Separation" one day and see how far it branches out!

BTW, Jeff was in my initial ground school. Next time you see him, ask him about the "films" during 727 initial with Ossiander. Crazy days.

See, if you used JC's offical AME here in PHX (Dr. Forred), Kristie and I will take you out for a frosty adult beverage before your flight home.
