Small plane crashes outside Prescott, killing two

Associated Press
Sept. 2, 2006 12:34 PM

PRESCOTT, Ariz. - Two people died and a third was critically injured Saturday when a small plane crashed near the airport here, authorities said.

The twin-engine aircraft hit power lines near the Prescott Municipal Airport and crashed at about 9:30 a.m., said Sgt. Chris Myhre of the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

Two people were confirmed fatalities, and a third was flown to a hospital, Myhre said. He did not know the type of aircraft or if it was taking off or landing at the time.

Anybody in the area have any more information? I see a Piper Aztec from Placerville, CA arriving at about that same time. Very sad in any case...

RIP

From what I have been able to gather by listening to the IP's who were there and the ATC recordings...It was a Skymaster (C-337G) registration number N1893M. From what I hear the Skymaster was unable to gain altitude after takeoff from runway 21L. Winds were calm and the Skymastwe was attempting a right traffic pattern for a touch and go on 21R before departing to the the NW. If you listen to the ATC recording you can hear the tower ask if they need assistance, to which they reply "negative" a few seconds later the recording is cut off by the plane clipping power lines.

Here is the link to the recording...

Scroll ahead to about the 19 minute mark and listen for Skymaster 93M. RIP to all involved!
