Hello fellas! is it true there is a height limit? I know a friend who wants to become a commercial pilot. She is 5.25 (she is really short ) and she told me that somebody told her that she couldn't become a commercial pilot because her height is under the height limit.is it: TRUE OR FALSE? |

I'm 5'2", and can fly just fine. I've flown with pilots, men and women, at AA & AE who were my height. The seats in airliners have incredible amounts of adjustment in them, as well as adjustable rudder pedals. In trainer aircraft, she may need some 'boost'. I'm embarassed to admit it but I used a booster seat in the warrier & archer. It had a 5" bottom and a 3" back and it made all the difference in the world. So, tell your vertically challenged friend that her worries are unfounded, and that height doesn't matter.

The person who told her she's too short may have been confusing airlines with the military. I'm not sure about the military rules, but I think they have some height restrictions.

If I'm not mistaken, JC's very own Aviation Medical Examiner was in the Army so I'm sure he could shed a little light on the military height restrictions. if not, I know a crowd of former military pilots that would know.

My old roomate...also a pilot at ASA, is only 4'11"....she doesn't have any problems. (except for crotchety old pilots who think little girls can't fly...but that's another story). On the flip side....I have a buddy of mine here who is 6'7". Nobody really cares!
