| Senior Member | contrary to SIUav8er, you can. The CFI-I, ie Flight Instructor - Instrument Airplane, gives you the authority to instruct in any airplane that appears on your *pilot* certificate. If your pilot certificate has multi-engine land on it, then you can give instrument instruction in a multi. You many not however teach him a Vmc demo or how to do a stall, etc without an MEI.

| Senior Member | actually your answer is in (c) for instrument instruction. The instrument applicant is not seeking an aircraft rating (ie ASEL, AMEL, ASES, etc) so (b) is not applicable. To instrument instruct in a multi the instructor must be instrument multi on his pilot cert and instrument on his cfi cert.
