Default What is the max hours for flying?

Isn't there a max you can fly in a month or year like 1000 a year or something? And no I am not going to search cause I'll just get a billion things that have posts directed at Max.

Sure!

What type of operation for a more specific answer?

It varies as far as what 'type' of operation you're talking about.

121 airline flying?
135 charter flying?
CFI flying?

Oh sorry, didn't know there was a difference. Let's say for CFI and then for CRJ's and I don't know if that is 121 or what. I'm just wondering cause I thought the max was 1000 a year which would be 83 a month but my husband's buds are flying a ton right now, so we are wondering if they will max out and have to take like the last 2 months of the year off. And as a CFI what would be the most he could fly in a month?

For Part 121 flying (the CRJ stuff) you are limited to 8 hours in 1 day, 30 hours in 7 days, 100 hours in a month and 1000 hours in a year. It is very possible to time out in November some time and have the rest of the year off. As far as part 91 (CFIing) you are just limited to logging 8 hours in a day. Note, I say logging. That is one that tends to get abused. There are people *I know* that ended up logging a few hours of time on days when they were in the mountains skiing. I'm not sure of the 135 regs but I think it is 1200 hours in a year but I may be wrong.

121 Domestic Airlines (121.481) 1 & 2 pilots crews
  • 8 hours in a 24 hour period
  • 30 every 7 days
  • 100 in a Month
  • 1000 in a year.
Eventhough one may time out the airline may still use them past those times for 91 repositioning, test, and ferry flights. Just not for revenue flights once the time limits have been exceeded. There are other limitations under this section for various crew compositions.

135 Charters Scheduled Operations (135.265)
  • 8 hours in 24 hour period
  • 34 hours in 7 days
  • 120 in a month
  • 1200 in a year
135 Charters Unscheduled 1 or 2 Crewmember Aircraft (135.267)
  • 8 hours in a 24 period 1 crewmember aircraft
  • 10 hours in a 24 period 2 crewmember aircraft
  • 500 in a calendar quarter
  • 800 in two consecutive quaters
  • 1400 in a year

121 ops for aircraft with 30 seats and less use the following rules as well:

The 30 seats or less should be the same as standard part-121 rules, but the FAA sold out because the airlines said, "We can't afford to run it under standard part-121 rules".

On an aircraft where you have the longest duty day, most legs and most complex systems, you have the most leniency.
