| I heard a rumor that American Airlines may be in the business of PFT. Word is they may take pilots with 1000/100 to be interns and go through ground schools, sim training, and company procedures at the "intern's" expense. If they pass everything, they can pay to sit right seat in a A320 as part of the "internship" after a company checkride. If they complete everything within company standards, they will be "guaranteed" an interview. Anyone heard about this?? ![]()

Not to mention lots of those pilots on the AA senority list are still on furlough. B.S. flag is a-waving...........

| You mean I will be able to pay $100,000 to fly right seat of an A320! SAAAWEEEET!!!! Count me in! That would be so cool to be an airline pilot without working for it! So cool! Man I can now get all the ladies, I mean male flight attendants, since I will be a cool airline pilot wearing a cool uniform! ![]() |

I have distanced myself from AA so much that a letter arrived having something to do with the F/A retirement and I just tossed the whole thing in the shredder and never even opened it. Furlough sucks.

Yup. The kicker though, was the mention of the A320. The only scarebus AA has is the A300. Call him out on it. Will you see him again? Ask specifics, how they plan on circumventing the recall policy, how they will have guys pay to be in a seat of an A/C AA doesn't operate. It'd be kind of funny to hear his responses ![]()

| Old Skool | AA is parking planes instead of recalling pilots. mad dogs and the TWA 757s are going bye-bye. what's the 23% pay raise quote of the day?! "shrinking to profitability" Thanks gerard, ya ######.

You know, the funny thing is, about a week or two ago there was a thread on a.net about how AA is looking into leasing A320s to replace the MD8X series gas chuggers. Most of the stuff on the a.net forums is crap but every now and then they get one right. I remember when F9 announced the A319 order, that came out of left field big time. If Airbus is looking to make a sale, any kind of sale, it may be a smart move for AA to get more fuel efficient airplanes on the cheap. Boeing seems to be kicking their butt again so maybe Airbus is going to be giving planes away again to keep up? I give this virtually no chance of happening but at the same time it wouldn't shock me if A320s were to show up at AA gates... | |

| Agent Smith | I don't think the -80's are going away. They're not that fuel inefficient, they have ---->260<---- of them and they're paid for. Multiple simulators, spare parts everywhere throughout the AA network, tons of pilots trained, loads of acquired -80's from TWA and Reno. I'm not pencil necked airline accountant geek, but I bet the economy of scale far outweighs the cost advantage of leasing Airbii, purchasing simulators and re-training a humongous amount of their pilots (8 pilots per plane x 260 in a rough estimate) to enjoy a marginal cost savings by leasing 320's. JMHO and I might be (and often are) wrong.

| yea that 2850 number seems about right, of which 450 are eagle captains, hence the 7 year upgrade at eagle. and american hasn't recalled ANY pilots at all. hopefully they will soon. |
