| Who else here has a family history of aviation that goes back a couple of generations? It's kinda interesting because it seems to be in the blood. My grandfather was a fighter pilot trainer in the Army Air Corps, flew a few bombers and did a lot of training in the T-6 Texan. My father has his ATP, but only ended up flight instructing for many years, now he's back to his original non-aviation related career. I have a cousin who's a corporate pilot flying the Lear and a G4. Then I have two great uncles who were Army Air Corps and commercial pilots as well and a second cousin who's a private pilot. Now I am working on my CSMEL-Instrument... so there are about 6 of us in the family ![]() All of these people are on my dad's side of the family. I'm starting to think it's in the blood.

| Father began flying at the age of 16, he is now 73. Mother was a flight nurse with the CANG. That is how I was given the initials of ETA. One brother had his ppl and his own Cessna 172 until he was paralized via someone elses DUI. Yes, aviation is in my blood. |

| Senior Member | My grandfather was a pilot both fixed wing and rotor (although he never got rated for helos) He was going to be an airline pilot but he wore glasses. Back in the day, you couldnt be an airline pilot if you wore glasses. so he became a mechanic for airplanes. Then he founded an aerospace engineering company that makes thermocouples for just about every aircraft/helo/etc. After the buisness took off he bought a cessna, then a jet, then a helo, then another jet. NOw he's to old to fly but still bleeds jet fuel. His son (my dad) is president of this copmany and really wants to get his lisecnes. I have always been surrounded by airplanes and was fascinated by them. so now i am about to start flight training. there it is.

| Senior Member | My grandfather was fascinated by the fighters he saw flying overhead in WWII (he's english) and learned to fly when he was old enough. He went on to set a few records. Nothing that would make him famous, he was the first person to fly solo over the north pole in a single and set a couple endurance records. He sparked my mom's interest. She got hired by a regional in England at 18, then got hired by Pan Am and moved to America. Since the fall of Pan Am she has been flying corporate. My dad got his PPL while he was a Baltimore City cop. When he moved to Delaware and became a cop they transfered him to the aviaiton section and gave him all his ratings. My mom was dad's multi instructor, they ended up getting married and had me and two other kids. I'm the only one that took up flying. If you look outside of my close family there seems to be a lot of pilots. But I'd imagine if you look hard enough any family is that way. Alex.

| Moderator | Grandma's Cousin: Flew B-29s in the war, buzzed the family farm house with one. Shook lots of windows, scared the cows. Maternal Grandpa: Fascinated with aviation, never learned to fly, always wished he had. Paternal Grandpa: Had a heart condition that prevented issuance of a medical. Flew RCs for many years. Uncle: Private pilot since 1974, instrument rated. Another Uncle: Career CFI in Florida, too old & no desire for the airlines. Dad: Worked on F-4s in Vietnam (Ubon), CMEL, Ground instructor, A&P IA, teaches the A&P program at a Blackhawk Tech at JVL. Husband: ATP, Delta Me: PPL, former F/A & instructor. I guess you could say I come from flying blood.

| I don't have any family involved with aviation except one of my mother's distant cousins who smashed up two planes and got his license snatched. Some heritage, eh?

Well, I'm first generation pilot in my family (and I'm still single so I can't say for my spouse yet). I hope to start a trend for many generations in the future (even if they go to unmanned flying...yeah right). Neil

| Senior Member | My dad did forensics for the Airforce, not really flying but he didn't identify bodies for alot of the Major civil crashes, like AA191 and the two 747's that crashed in Tenerife. And my uncle was a navigator for some plane in 'nam. |

| Senior Member | My grandmother was a pilot in her 30s-40s during the 1960s-1970s. No longer flies but expresses an intrest in aviation. Flying is not in my blood, and as much as my grandmother thinks I got the flying bug from her, I did not.
