Default Fly By Wake Up Call

Okay, so maybe this could go into the Military section but I do not feel that enough people play around in there, so here it is. Oh, and if this has been posted before... ohh well, read it again.

Quote:
An "Opinions" letter posted in the Phoenix, Az. newspaper the "Arizona Republic" on Jun 30, 2005.
----------------------
A wake-up call from Luke's jets
Jun. 23, 2005 12:00 AM
Question of the day for Luke Air Force Base: Whom do we thank for the morning air show?

Last Wednesday, at precisely 9:11 a.m., a tight formation of four F-16 jets made a low pass over Arrowhead Mall, continuing west over Bell Road at approximately 500 feet. Imagine our good fortune!

Do the Tom Cruise-wannabes feel we need this wake-up call, or were they trying to impress the cashiers at Mervyns' early-bird special?

Any response would be appreciated. - Tom MacRae, Peoria

The reply:
Flyby honored fallen comrade
Jun. 28, 2005 12:00 AM
Regarding "A wake-up call from Luke's jets" (Letters, Thursday):

On June 15, at precisely 9:12 a.m., a perfectly timed four-ship of F-16s from the 63rd Fighter Squadron at Luke Air Force Base flew over the grave of Capt Jeremy Fresques.

Capt. Fresques was an Air Force officer who was previously stationed at Luke Air Force Base and was killed in Iraq on May 30, Memorial Day.

At 9 a.m. on June 15, his family and friends gathered at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City to mourn the loss of a husband, son and friend.

Based on the letter writer's recount of the flyby, and because of the jet noise, I'm sure you didn't hear the 21-gun salute, the playing of taps, or my words to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques as I gave them their son's flag on behalf of the president of the United States and all those veterans and servicemen and women who understand the sacrifices they have endured.

A four-ship flyby is a display of respect the Air Force pays to those who give their lives in defense of freedom. We are professional aviators and take our jobs seriously, and on June 15 what the letter writer witnessed was four officers lining up to pay their ultimate respects.

The letter writer asks, "Whom do we thank for the morning air show?"

The 56th Fighter Wing will call for you, and forward your thanks to the widow and parents of Capt. Fresques, and thank them for you, for it was in their honor that my pilots flew the most honorable formation of their lives.

Lt. Col. Scott Pleus
Luke Air Force Base

My parents live fairly close to Luke AFB and my dad sent me this story last summer. Luke has been around longer than most of the houses out in the West Valley, but people seem to forget that. If you buy a house out that way chances are you're going to hear the F-16's because they fly all day almost every day during the week.

Wow. Must be pretty self centered to think the only possible reason 4 highly trained pilots flying mooey expensive government jets above him would be to impress, HIM... geesh.

Read snopes.com to see if it was a real story, apprently it was true. The guy also sent another letter to the news paper apologizing for his ignorant letter he originally sent in.

The reply from Lt. Col. Scott Pleus was incredible. It was very professional and at the same time put the original sender in place. Nice job. I still say kill the bitch.

I actually have a similar story about a flyover:

I live a few blocks from a track where they hold the special olympics yearly. about a year ago on a saturday morning i was mowing the lawn. I start to hear a rumble but think nothing of it because my house is right below the approach to KBUR.(about 30 miles from KBUR) As the sound becomes louder i look up. The sound is now ear poppingly loud. I think: oh great just what i need. a 737 in my front lawn. Mind you all of this is happening in about 2 seconds. Right as i turn off the mower. WHA BAM! there is an F-16 right above me (i cant really measure height yet but i would say 500' agl. the sound is so loud i just fall over (to this day im not sure why i collapsed). It was a huge rush of adrenaline. Oh and then it happened again a few weeks ago. again while i was mowing the lawn. NExt year i swear im gonna get a picture of it!!

It says you went back and edited after I defeated you because of your deplorable grammar. You suck, and my quote has forever captured your mistake.

It's not as much of a grammar error as I changed what I wanted to say mid-sentence and didn't read it over again.

The scoutskins wanted to go crap on the neighbors lawn and wouldn't leave me alone so I couldn't sit around and edit my post for 20 minutes like I usually do.

b double e double r you in is about to commence.
