Default IM OUT!

Its nuts. Ive been on this board for a few years watching people work their way up and finally land a j-o-b, and now its me. Who woulda thunk it? Its gonna be a crazy 6 weeks, and I won't have much computer time, but Ill try to hop on JC and let the up and comers (and anyone else who cares) how its all going with training. If anyone in the DC area wants to keep me company on my days off, gimme a hollar

So thats it...Don't miss JC's resident Jewish Brotha From Anotha Motha too much.

Fly safe everyone...

I expect to be getting a PM from you when you get up to DC, bro.

If you want to play hockey, we need to bring you onto our team. We had what we called the Sunday night line, with me centering two Jewish guys.

Why did we call it the Sunday night line? Because one of them said that's what Jews do on Sunday night -- call for Chinese.

chances are you'll find other JCers at ground school.

In Manassas:

Go to Chipotle. Its good.

Go to the burger place by the train tracks. I forget the name. Good burgers. Don't go in uniform. You'll get ketchup on your shirt and the HEF ATP guys will stare.

More Manassas tourist guide to come...

Hey all....I decided to bring the laptop so I'll be able to leave updates every now and then.

Just got back from day 2 of training. Nothing special to note so far, just a lot of boring stuff really (paperwork, etc). We got our ID's today, so it felt a lil more "official." Besides me there are 5 other guys in the class for the 1900. A few from the Orlando interview, and a couple from LGA so since I went both I pretty much knew the crew. Even though we've been here 3 days we're all pretty close already so thats cool. The older Colgan guys didn't lie about the "family" thing. Me and 2 other guys got to DCA later in the day and Chuck Colgan came and picked us up. He gave us a lil tour of the town and brought us to HEF to see a 1900D that was in mx. The man even gave us his car for the week. (Just picture 6 guys cramming into a Crown Vic..pretty funny).

Anyway, not much else to report for now. We're gonna go do what pilots do best and go get drunk.....I'll post in a week or so.

This "Chuck" guy sounds like quite the nice lad.

Ok so by popular demand, a training update:

We are now in the beginning of week 3 and I feel like Ive been here for months. First week we went over the FOPP (Flight Ops and Procedures), which was boring as hell but there is a lot of important stuff to know. We all had to take a test on it and needed a 70% to pass..Everyone passed. Now we're on to systems. Learning a seminole wasn't crap compared to what we have to learn for the 1900D. Im glad that I didn't get the Saab 340 to start because I'd be rediculously overwhelmed. To give you an idea of how intense and in depth systems is, we spent 1.5 days on the electrical system, and another 1.5 days on the fuel system. Class is 8hrs a day. Everything is starting to come together though. Limitations are a bit tough, but procedures and flows are actually starting to make sense now. I think everyone gets a chip on their shoulder when they become a CFI, but since becoming a 121 pilot (almost) I realize how little we know as CFIs in the whole realm of aviation. Im definitely humbled by being here.

We have our systems test on Friday which is scaring the crap out of us (the class), but I think we'll all come out okay. After that we get to crap our pants about the 2 our oral after our sim sessions.

The scariest part about all of this, is that if we fail out of training our careers are for the better part, over.....Not cool, but it only makes you work harder. On that note, back to the books!

I know plenty of people that have had problems in training and are flying a line now.

Yea I usede to subscribe to that way of thinking also. But since joining the site I have learned that training is difficult and not everyone passes.

But if at your next interview you explain honestly what occured and let them know what you have learned and how you'd better succeed they give you a pass.

Saying that though if you have been to five training classes prior and failed all five and your on your sixth interview you might be done as an airline pilot.

Has Colgan always conducted training out of Manassas, I thought it was just a maintenance base along with the corporate headquarters.

FlyingNole, let me know when you're in (email/pm/etc)... I fly out of KHEF ... a Warrior through a flying club.

Living kind of up-the-road from the airport.

Well we're here until Saturday morning, then 2 of us leave for LGA and me and the other guys leave for MCO for sim training. Now that we are carless I have to eat crap food everyday, it sucks. Friday's is the best place in walking distance.
