This sunday I was out camping with a few of my friends. I consumed 2 beers and went to sleep in my tent. I decided to wake up to use the washroom and was greeted by a squad car responding to a noise complaint in my campground. The officer asked how old i was and I said I was 20, after a bunch of BS talk about how ur not supposed to drink until ur 21 he gave me a breathalizer test, and i blew a .007, followed by a .004 on the second attempt. Since my blood alcohol level was practically none I thought he was gonna give me a warning, but instead he told me I was under arrest and to put my hands behind my back. I couldnt believe it! I got written up for a Class C misdemeanor and my court date is june 23rd. Am I screwed!!?!!! I have never done anything wrong in the past! I'm really freaking out here about my future career plans! |

hmm least it isent a DUI, however, some states you can refuse a breathelizer and do the basic balance and coordination test, not sure how Illionois state law would punish you if they do. This might help http://www.madd.org/Laws/state/?StateID=IL

Sorry but if that Class C gets on your record the airlines are going to take someone with a clean record over you. Sorry.

That being said, there was a guy who went thru MAPD that had a MIP and he was hired. It was maybe 6 years back in his history. As far as not doing anything wrong in the past...this was the first time you drank, ever? Judging by the way you tell the story "I just had a few beers.." makes me think you've done it a few times. I don't drink any more - the nail in the coffin was after I climbed down from a 3rd story apartment drunk to avoid the cops at the front door. Maybe this will be your wake up call? I was under age then too. I honestly don't think you will be in too much trouble with a future employer. Will you get your first pick (be it freight or regional) right off the bat, within the next two years? Probably not. But it's not the end of the world. How much time do you have until you finish training? Are you currently employed now flying? What is your background?

You are going to have to accept the consequences of your actions and decisions. People deciding to be career pilots need to be especially careful in their decision making, young or old. One wrong move may mean little to a person with a desk job but could be a major career set back for a pilot.

It's not a deal breaker. There are a ton of pilots out there with way worse skeletons in their closet than that. You may get passed up here and there while it's still recent (esp. at 121 airlines), but 10 years or more down the line I can't see how it would continue to be a big issue. |

GET A LAWYER and do anything you can to get it off your record. If its your first offense of any type its likely that the judge may just dismiss it. If not you can at least get deferred adjudication. However I highly reccomend giving up the booze until your of age because anything else will screw you. You want to be able to show you've learned from this experience and become better for it. Also when you turn 21 make sure you budget in cab money on your nights out. I'm 24 and can't believe how lucky I was. |

Its a first offense, a minor consumption of alcohol, my first ticket my first police station trip my first everything! I'm 20 years old and finishing my PPL i'm planning on going to ariben and then finishing college... The officers said the judge will probably dismiss it since i blew a .007 or give me a small fine with court supervision. |

I was serious Champcar, he isn't screwed until convicted. Get a lawyer, and suck the judge off if you have to. Just get it off your record at all costs. Then quit doing stupid crap that will haunt you forever. Harmless as it seems to you at the time, Drinking underage is illeagal and now you are paying for it. GET A LAWYER!!!!!!!

This is where the "depends on the cop" part plays in. When I was in high school I did something really stupid for this sociology "project" My genious team members decided to make posters titled "honk if you love es eee ex" and stand in a busy intersection. I tried my best to stay out of the picture. Despite several honks about 15 minutes later a cop car shows up saying the dept received 17 phone calls. Miraculously 2 minutes later my teacher stops at the intersection and rescued us. He said we were lucky it wasn't the bad guy. Otherwise we'd all be arrested! Oops.

I don't know why everyone is flipping out. You guys make pilots sound like Gods. Its just a misdeamenor and its your first offense. What will most likely happen is it will be on your record for a year. If you don't commit any more crimes or get tickets it will be removed from your record. Everyone makes mistakes. When you go to court ask the judge how to keep it off your record. They are there to help you. I'v been in that situation and its not to bad.

| If you are not driving, you do not have to blow!!!!!! That is an old trick to catch minors in possession. Ask the officer what the consequences are if you refuse the test and see what they say. Why incriminate yourself? You weren't driving; they can't get your driving privileges. Everyone knows you are still screwed if you refuse the test at a traffic stop. If you are driving, the only reason you should refuse the test is if you get into a bad accident and hurt or kill someone else. At that point, you are more worried about staying out of the slammer than keeping your privilege to drive. I got a drinking award when I was 20. I was at a bar on a Tuesday night. It was a friend of a friend of a friend’s 21st birthday so we were there to get the 21 pitchers for $21 deal. I got caught. It was a simple misdemeanor and for me it was 6 years ago. I’m not worried about it. If the people you talk to in your future airline interview are in their 40’s, it was legal for them to drink at age 20. I think they’ll understand. Mike |

dude, you're fine. dont worry about anything. the court system is so backed up they dont know what to do. i got your ticket (mic im guessing) plus 2. One got dismissed because the paperwork wasnt done right (thats bound to happen for you) and the other 2 will be gone sept 1. No payments, but i did do an alcohol course and i had lots of community service done to make me look good, but none was court ordered. all in all, dont worry about it. Next time, go down fighting!!! (kiddign) Blow a .3, spit in their face(s), and vomit on the booking room floor. works for me! Learn from this mistake (granted you didnt do anything wrong) and be more careful next time. Get it expunged when you're 21, and ask your lawyer if you can check "NO" for "have you ever been convicted or plead no contest to a misdemeanor and/or felony?" then tell me what he said. thanks
