Default So, I shot myself in the foot...

Not literally. Maybe worse though. I wish I had found this board a long time ago. You know, back before I attended at 141 university and spent quite a bit of money on the not very practical degree of "Airway Science". Now I've got a job flying (AirNet), but I'm thinking of all the things that could happen were I to have a medical problem or a brain fart someday.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to make yourself more employable in the event of something you hope doesn't happen? I am interested in computers and mechanical things. I work the typical AirNet night schedule so I was trying to figure a way to maybe take classes in the day slowly or do a self study thing or something in my spare time. Thanks in advance.

I'm enrolled in the Masters of Information Systems program at the University of Phoenix Online. No complaints so far.

I just realized I made that sound pretty negative. I am not at all negative about my career choice. I've had a lot of fun so far at AirNet and hope to continue for years to come. However, I now realize that I could have gotten an aviation job with a degree in anything besides airway science and wish I had set myself up for something that I could fall back on if necessary.

Dugie8, what you suggested looks promising. I sent them my info and they already responded. They suggested getting my MBA through them. Does anyone else have opinions for online degrees and their reputation? Thanks

Keep in mind that most people don't enter the field they earned a degree in--pilots included. Plenty you can do with that airway science degree if you couldn't fly. Were I in that position, first place I'd look for work is with the FAA.

Oh...No Anikan. Do not be tempted by the " Dark Side".
