Default Local Talk Host Rides With Blue Angels

A local talk host in my area rode with the Blue Angels. Long video. He actually had trouble handling the Gs, which is kind of funny to watch. They were making fun of how he was falling asleep on the way back to SDF today on his show.

Thats such crap. I want to fly with them so bad and some host gets to. Im jealous. I think that it is incredible how throughout the entire flight, maneuvers included, the pilot was able to call out everything. I think the guy who went for the flight went home and died.

I've posted this before, and it's a little older, but this lady has a lot more fun on a Blue Angel ride than that radio host. She was able to handle 7G's pretty well according to the pilot.

Reaaaddyy...Hit it!

Here's the page by itself if you want to download or choose your video player: Jan flies with the Blue Angels

I'd give my left "stepchild" up for a ride with them.

Right on. The USAF and USN waste all this time and money taking these idiot sports figures and celebrities on rides in fighters, when the enlisted troops who are working 14 average hours a day maintaining these planes, getting paid squat, never seeing their families, etc; have barely the chance for the occasional 1 or 2 "incentive" slots per year.

Definitely a mis-prioritization of resources if you ask me.

Am I missing something? I thought the mission of these units was public relations.

It is, for them specifically. But AF-wide, many other units host public figures for visits, and give them rides in aircraft. IMHO, we need to be taking care of our own first, then doling out whatever remains.

That's cool. But I've got to believe that giving Earnhart Jr. and other celebs a ride does good things for recruitment.

It definitely has it's place, don't get me wrong. But I think more emphasis needs to be given also to the enlisted troops that do the daily grind. You know what I mean.

Aren't these teams used as a recruiting tool? It'd be better to take up someone famous so that lots of people are talking about it rather than average enlisted joe. (In terms of exposure).

I'm behind you 100% Mike. I agree. Its nice to do the PR stuff, but they've gotta think about their comrads behind them. One thing I loved about the Coast Guard was even though I was a boat mechanic, we got rides in the CG helo's all the time for fun. Granted its not a jet, but it sure was fun to fly in the helo at 100 feet off the water and play in the door.

yeah he is nuts. He has a goofy radio show with a bunch of random stuff. They have this inside joke about fans of the state basketball team--University of Kentucky. Some of them call into the radio station and complain when they are doing charity for children that the station should be doing "basketball". The radio hosts make fun of it. Also, I loved his joke on there about "Indiana: basketball and popcorn".
