Thumbs up My ExpressJet Internship Experience

I posted on here a few weeks ago asking for advice on the XJT internship interview. Well here's my story:

On the 14th, I carpooled up to Orlando with another flight student from here at Florida Tech. We met 2 other guys from Riddle going for an interview at the gate. We Non-Rev'd to Houston on a CAL 767 at noon. I was fairly nervous and I could tell the other guys were too, but the flight attendants were all really nice... they knew what we were there for and all when they saw the extremely rare sight of 4 college-aged guys in suits.
When we got to IAH we waited about 20 or 30 minutes for a shuttle over to the XJT training facility on the other side of the field. They brought us straight to the fish tank (interviewee waiting room) where Angela Barron of the HR department gave us a short presentation about the internship program and answered questions. Of course a few guys were trying to make themselves stand out by asking several brainless questions.. and i suppose they were successful for better or worse. We filled out a form as to our preference in placement and wether we wanted the summer or fall terms.

After the Q&A session was over they called each of us one by one into an interview room. I was one of the last guys to go, so I had the opporunity to talk to most of the other candidates. For the most part, everyone was really cool. I was definately the most underqualified candidate there as far as experience... most of the other guys were atleast juniors and had their CFI's and 4-700 hours. I'm a sophomore and I JUST got my commercial... I have 215 hours.

I was called into the room and faced with 2 ladies... Angela and Esmeralda (sp?). Both of them were really nice and the interview was extremely basic. It took about 7 minutes... and these are the questions they asked me:

Have you ever failed a checkride?
Have you ever broken a reg?
Have you ever gotten in an accident?
What are your goals?
Do you have any questions?

From what I understand, it was a basic HR interview pulled from the pilot hiring process. I still don't understand why exactly they flew all of us out there to ask us 5 questions, but Im sure they have their reasons. I'm thinking they probably already have the interns they want to hire in mind based on resumes, and just want to make sure that the people are professional in appearance, etc.

After all 4 of us who were heading back to MCO were finished, we headed back over to the terminal, got some food, and headed home. I finally got home at about 1130pm, only to wakeup at 6 the next morning to fly down to miami and do it all over again at a scholarship interview.

Overall, it was a cool experience and Im glad I got to see texas for the first time as well as the training center. As I said before, I don't know exactly what they were looking for in an intern, but i must have done something right despite being on the lower end of experience, because I received an email the next day from Ms. Barron offering me the Chief Pilot intern position at EWR for the summer.

The ExpressJet people seem to like the people here Florida Tech. Between the 7th and 14th, 4 students from here all interviewed for the internship, and I believe we all got a slot. Additionally, they've, picked up 6 or 7 of our alumni/CFI's in the past year or so. Kind cool.

Needless to say, Im really pumped and I look forward to meeting all you XJT guys this summer!

Hope it was an entertaining read,

Dana

PS: I posted this in the general forum as opposed to the interview gouge section because I figured any potential future intern that this may help would be more likely to see it here.
