Default Just back from Skyharbor Tower/TRACON tour!

It was awesome and I mean awesome. I dropped the JC name everyone had heard of it. The new tower opens in Nov. Though they did tell me that is an FAA November so that could mean January or maybe later as an open date (hahaha). The new tower is mostly done they said their just putting in all the avionics.

I'd really like to get a JC KPHX tower/tracon tour started in the next few months so lets see bout gettin that done. Have any question let me know I have some pictures comin later and I even got a guys number while I was there...woo hoo!

Nope, just bustin' your chops. I learned a long time ago to try to never ASSume. It happens every once in a while, but I keep it limited.

I was talking to one of the operations guys at PHX and asked how the new tower had come to be. He told me that a political figure/official had toured the existing tower and learned that they were operating on what turned out to be 1970's era technology. The official was shocked to learn this and had lobbied for a new tower at Sky Harbor.

That guy must have some serious pull...

Yea...they had some really old equipmment in the tower and TRACON. But were quick to boast about the new state of the #$%^* art stuff that there getting with the new tower. When it opens TRACON is moving to a new facility under the new tower. I it is going to be an impressive sight definately.

Last tour I took of there was with when the ATC tower next to Cutter Aviation was the ATC tower next to Terminal 1, and Phoenix Flight Service Station was located next to the exec terminal.

I think that would be a smashing idea! I'd love to hear input from some ATC folks!
