| Good afternoon everybody,I am a new and old member of Jetcareers. i was one of the people burned by "Airline Training Academy" in orlando a few years back(the money lost was $33k cash from my parents estate).I earned my written ppl exam..woohooo..before they ran off.I recently posted on this in the old thread on ATA and was told to let it go ,it is a dead issue. I , for one, don't believe so . I am posting this to let other newbies pay attention to what can happen in the flight school world, it has taken over 2 years to get back in gear and a lot of hardship for my family. Nobody yet has even located the Williams family, who by the way may be cashing your check right now behind the corporate veil, Does anyone out there believe anything can come of this?, I for one have to trust that justice will come .... then again it was only a bunch of complaining rich kids that got screwed and mommy and daddy will fix it ...right! thank you for giving me a minute of your life |

| Welcome to Jetcareers, Laddie!! Unfortunately, I think that it is pretty much a dead issue. What else is there to do?

That sucks. I've ran into a few people who have trained there who got screwed, just not as bad as you. I don't know what you can do, but I hope you can get your money back. Has anyone talked lawsuit or something like that?

| This was a hard lesson for you and your family to learn. I have always had an issue with schools who demand payment for their program in full, and up front. You have no protection in the advent the school decides to go criminal and take your money. Think about it, what are they going to do? If they get caught, they will be ordered to pay restitution, and serve some time in jail...maybe. You could sue them, but you would be hard pressed to recover any money. I do wish you well, and it stinks to be taken advantage of. All the sympathy and apologies won't get you your money back though. This is not a dead issue because you can educate others about your misfortune and maybe prevent others from making the same mistake. |

| I have seen a couple guys come here to DCA recently that got caught up the the ATA mess and from what I gathered some of them have seen some money back. Perhaps from Key Loan or somewhere. I didn't ask too many questions because it really wasn't my business, but it does seem like some of them got some $$$ back. I can ask around when I see them...

| "I , for one, don't believe so . I don't know if flight academies make you pay a lot upfront, anymore. If so, it's a bad practice and someone needs to keep speaking out about it. |

| Old Skool | I'm very hesitant about droppin large sums of money up front. It just makes sense not to. I wasn't burned at ATA but I would already be Instrument rated if my FBO in TUS hadn't folded with $8k or my moms money. Anyone know is Skymates (my school of choice) makes you pay up front or do they have other options available? |

| thank you all ,i had hoped i wouldn't come across as a whiney bags but that was my hope to at least keep an awareness out there of what could happen to an aspiring pilot. i did not come from a wealthy background and my parents worked for over forty years to build up something that "capt"jim williams & co. took in less than 2 weeks personal note: if any of the williams family is reading this,no amount of prayer will cool that seat that is waiting for you! | Anyone have PI's out looking for them? Is there a criminal investigation? Sorry, but I am not up to speed on the aftermath of all this. Laddie - I would consider forming a group of folks and get something going if not already. |

| For you guys that would like a little more background on what has transpired, and what has been done (or attempted), feel free to wander around this forum for a while: Get your money back from Airline Training Academy .
