Default Have you cleaned out your locker yet?

Well, Doug?

I hope DAL management gets the message that y'all are serious.

Quote:

ATLANTA Apr 7, 2006 (AP)The pilots union at Delta Air Lines Inc. ordered members to clear their lockers Friday in anticipation of a possible strike the union says is "becoming more likely every day."

The union representing the airline's 5,930 pilots is in a protracted dispute with management over long-term pay and benefit cuts that Atlanta-based Delta is seeking.

The company has asked an arbitration panel to void its contract with pilots so it can impose up to $325 million in cuts. The pilots union has said it will strike if the contract is thrown out.

The panel must rule by April 15, and the pilots have given their union leader authorization to call a strike anytime after April 17.

The union says its action Friday was to prepare for the possibility of a strike by having pilots remove flight gear and personal belongings from their lockers in crew rooms across the country.

The union said removing the items will prevent senior executives at the nation's third-largest carrier from blocking access to the equipment by a lockout.

Delta spokesman Bruce Hicks said the airline's "focus will remain and our energies will remain on the critical issue of reaching a consensual agreement," adding that "that's the most important action, and in everyone's best interest."

Muchos garcias!

All I have is a old plastic shopping bag (??!) and a toothbrush I bought when I left mine in a hotel room during a trip.

The real fun part about union negotiations is when the company sends stuff to your home address during a trip. Basically, the wives are supposed to read these "fireside chats" with management when their hubby is away to call 'bull#####' and put pressure on their husbands.

So what we're doing is taking all of the crap they send to us, giving it to our union reps to package up and dump on the front porch of HQ.

Here are the actual instructions:

Quote:
In what can only be assumed to be another attempt to rebuild sagging employee morale, on April 5, Delta executives announced another forward-thinking campaign. Dubbed "Delta After Dark," management will kick off its first "Clean Day" volunteer effort on April 19. In essence, Delta employees are being asked to volunteer to come in on their own time and without pay and clean aircraft remaining overnight. While we applaud the Delta spirit of those who choose to volunteer, it is ironic that a senior management that has spent millions on $1000/hour consultants to lower employee costs now attempts to reach out by asking employees to work for free. On a bright note, volunteers will get a free t-shirt-maybe something like "My Company Went To Chapter 11, and All I Got Was This Lousy T-Shirt?" We're assuming many of Delta's consultants will participate, since their 25 year old "I Saved Eastern" t-shirts must be getting a little threadbare.

One of the "Clean Day" listed opportunities is to "Clean work spaces to set a baseline for a clean, organized work space." Ironically, due to the continued intransigence by Delta's senior executives to provide closure on the major issues that separate us, your MEC now must ask for a similar effort from you.

Effective immediately, you are asked to remove all your personal items from any and all company workspaces. This includes v-files, lockers, commuter rooms and any other areas that may contain personal items. If our contract is rejected, we will strike. If your personal items remain on company property after a strike begins, there is no guarantee that you will be able to recover your property. This effort is not "for show." Please remove all your personal property from the Delta premises as soon as possible, but no later than April 14.

Additionally, for those with lockers, please remove your personal lock and leave your locker door wide open. This will provide a visual reminder that our threat to strike is real, and that we may not return.

Finally, you should soon receive a DVD in the mail based on Delta senior management's February 28 "Town Hall Meeting." The information that matters most to us has already been presented in a different venue known as the 1113 hearings-where questions were answered under oath! A clean work space at home is every bit as important as a clean work space at work. Please bring this DVD with you the next time you come to the airport. The LEC Reps will be spending time in the lounges and will be happy to return the disk to management for you.

Please do not delay in accomplishing these efforts. It may be only a matter of days to a decision on management's ill-advised efforts to reject our contract.

Your MEC Strike Committee

As a young aviator, I support all Delta crews in their effort. Taking a stand is important. I wish for the best outcome for the hard working pilots, whatever it may be.

I happen to think us wives are a bit smarter than that this time around....I'm getting emails from wives all over the country in support.

Kristie you have to remember alot of the old timers still sit around thinking wives of pilots dont work and will buy into the propaganda.

When I use to get stuff in the email she usually filed it properly before I ever saw it.

Remember if its good for the company its not good for the employee. You will get hosed

As sad as a strike will be and I have many friends that are employed as pilots at DL including my AF commander...I'm glad Delta is going to stand up and say enough is enough for not only DL but for all pilots. Maybe others will soon get the picture...

There are a bunch of people at work (Customer service for Comair at BGR) that are nervous and a few that are pissed about the potential strike. Between our Flight attendants and the DAL pilots we have two work groups that are in the 1113 process. Since we are owned by big-D if they cease to exist most likely Comair will be gone as well. There is a chance of finding investors and remaining as a regional feed company seperate from Delta.

Being owned by Delta doesn't mean everything

and...

Being owned by Delta means you'll lose everything

Well, I don't want to break the bad news, but finding an independent investor to put money into a offshoot regional that'll have to cut costs in order to compete with the rest of the 'portfolio' are kind of slim to none.

Our union is here not because of decisions we've made, it's here because of decisions that crappy management has forwarded with the advice of third parties that don't understand the airline business.

Do I want to go on strike? Nope, but I'm not going to allow myself to be abused because I like flying airplanes nor do I feel that I'm "Joan of Arc" on doing God's work and I must fly an MD-88/90 at all costs.

Delta management has a clear message that if they void our contract, we will withdraw services. That's fundamentally clear. They can negotiate in good faith and rebuild the airline, or they can continue the game of "Oh jeepers, if the non-union employees see that having representation enabled the pilots to have a voice, then the other employees will vote for a union!" to their destruction.

No contract. No pilots. Simple.

I'm more than happy moving my "Plan B" to "Plan A" and living my life without commuting to SLC.

I've got my private. I can fly to my heart's content. However, the Harvard types will have to reapply and find another business to destroy and another group of employees to push around like they're children.
