Default Seriously?!?

I thought the left rudder remark was hilarious! On a serious note, I don't think that spins should be part of the pre-solo training, but I am all for spin awareness and a lot more stall training.

BTW this is my first post on JC in a LONG time....LOL

sometimes it's really difficult to tell whether something's a joke or not.. we can't tell the inflection in your tone of voice as you type. smilies are typically used as "joke" or "happy" or "smiles" but not often for sarcasm...that's why we have the and tags.. for that specific purpose just so everyone understands where your coming from.

maybe in the future if you are indeed kidding... then at the bottom stick an "i kid.. i kid" or "kidding/joking" liek some do just so 100% of the members/guests understand that your totally NOT being serious.

k?!

point taken.

but, you say smilies are taken as a "joke" so then shouldnt everyone have known that i was kidding when i told the kid to put in full left rudder during a power on stall?!

your honor, i present exhibit A ^^ (being playful while making a point)

yes but sometimes they seem so subtle that they might need additional "jokster" quotes....to me, i really couldn't tell whether you were joking or not and apparently neither could some others - so if you think someone might not get it, then stick something extra in there....

I'd agree most of the time, but sometimes you can with the right student (or the very very wrong student heh heh heh)

Stalling a plane never gets boring, especially when you have people sitting in the back and the look on their faces is just hilarious.

I was working with a primary student out in Jacksonville. We were practicing power on stalls, and the student would not use the rudder properly despite every demonstration I could show him. The student just could not grasp the concept of proper rudder useage. During departure stalls I would tell the student constantly more right rudder, and I would put the correct amount of right rudder in just as the airpalne stalled. I didn't want to spin, but I got tired of telling him.

So, I told the student to climb to 5,000 feet to continue stall practice. He didn't even ask me why we were going up so high. Upon reaching 5,000 feet, I told the student that I was going to place my feet flat on the floor and not touch anything during the stall and recovery. He put the airplane into a departure attitude and continued to pull back on the yoke as he was adding power. I didn't tell him he needed more right rudder, this was a lesson he needed to learn on his own. As predicted, the airplane stalled and violently rolled onto its back and pitched nose down. We were in a spin! The student looked at me for guidance and I told him to recover from the spin as he learned how to on the ground. Long story short, he now knows the proper use of the rudder.

let me rephrase

"as you near 60kias and push in throttle and carb heat if you're in a ghetto ass 172 and pull up to get into a power on stall, be sure to add gobbs of left rudder ************************************************JO KE ALERT********************************************* ******** for your, and your instructor's enjoyment." actually, let your instructor show you a spin AT SOME POINT DURING YOUR TRAINING, theyre badass

spins are fun as hell
do eet SOME TIME, DONT RUSH IT THOUGH

edit: modified to make sure everyone knew it was a joke
second edit: added a few astericks (sp?) for shock value, and added sense of sarcasm.
third edit: for my tennessee pal
about 4 lessons ago my instructor did two spins, I loved them!! I like the g-forces that you feel.

A spin should be a 1 G maneuver . . . unless you were doing snap rolls. Nothing like a horizontal spin to wake you up in the morning!

Unless it's fuel injected!

so true. good ole sp's

they run 10/hr more where i train though. so i count up the number of times i have to manipulate the carb heat control, divide 10 by that number, and thats how much i 'get paid' every time i pull the carb heat

Nah. Nothing too exciting. It's been at least 5 months since I did any aerobatic flying. I need to sneak some more time in the Extras that I have 'access' too sometime soon! There are definitely benefits to having friends who are aerobatic instructors.
