| I've had my bose headset for about 10 months now, and they're great, but you have to take care of them, ya have to be gentle with them... I'm so use to pulling them right out by the cord, after I fly and I throw them in my flight bag until I get the aircraft secure....on my last flight I noticed that there are making that noise that sounds like it's getting a short in the mic. I've got to get a hold of Bose and see what the replacement policy is, but they are great at noise reduction, flying a piston aircraft, as soon as you push the button and turn them on, you can definatley tell the difference. I think I paid about 995 for them |

| Buy them. You'll be glad you did. I always wait untill the engine is running to push the button. Then it's AHHhhhhhh...... I'd buy them again for sure.

| Old Skool | I bought mine when I was instructing... It took tons of abuse for 80-100 hours a month in the Seminole... I now use it in the E-145 for 75-90 hours a month and it is still going strong. It's taken quite a beating going in and out of my flight case and changing planes every other leg or so. I have had no problems with it and have also found that the batterys lasts significantly longer than advertised. I was getting around 50-60 hours of use in the Seminole, and now I'm getting in excess of 100 hours in the E-145... don't really know why that is other than the fact that the 145 is much quiter in the cockpit than the seminole as thus the headset may not have to work as hard. ? I also do basically the same thing as DCApilot2006 does above... except I wait to turn them on until Takeoff, and then shut them down as I approach the Ramp. Any way... mine are really scratched up, the cord is no longer straight and true since I wind it up so tightly around the headset before I cram it into my flight case... but it's still going strong for over 2 years now. | There are less-expensive, as-effective, better-built alternatives to the Bose X in the market. Anyone considering dropping that kind of coin should, at the very least, demo the David Clark H10-13X and the Telex Stratus 50-D in addition to the Bose. I own the DC H10-13XL and while the Bose is more comfortable, the DC's ANR equals the Bose IMHO, and is superior in every other respect (built quality, cost, durability, manufacturer support, to name a few of the important ones).

| Senior Member | Does anyone use the Stratus 50-D? I haven't been able to find somewhere that demo's them locally. It seems like a better product than the bose.

| Old Skool | speaking generally for Bose's other audio products... they are a lot of hype, good marketing, and a mediocre product. /2 cents //havent tried the headset but their track record on other audio gear speaks volumes |

For smaller piston singles - my NON ANR DC's (13.4) were satisfactory. While some of the ANR headsets were lighter, then noise reduction was the same or sometimes less than my DC's. If you don't fly more then a few hours a day, IMO the BOSE aren't worth the expense. For larger (ie 6 cylinder) pistons - the ANR started to make a difference. The biggest difference, though, was over time, the BOSE X's are so much less fatiguing compared to the other headsets. For piston twins - the ANR was a HUGE difference. I ended up buying the lightspeed 25XL's for $350. I had the opportunity to try some BOSE X's a few times, and if I had tried them side by side before purchasing the lightspeeds, I would have found the $$ for the BOSE X. Not only do they reduce more noise, but they also have much clearer ATC transmissions. Sitting in the baron when I turned the BOSE X's on, I had to look out the window to check if the engines were running (this was at idle, however). They were extremely quiet. The turboprops - again the BOSE wins out. I tried them sitting in the back of a 1900 one day and was amazed. Flying 5,6,7 hours a day they are 10X more comfortable then my lightspeeds and DC's ever were. For jets - doesn't really make a huge difference. I tried the BOSE X, lightspeed 25XL, and DC 13.4, as well as the BOSE Quiet Comfort 2's, the Telex 750 with earplugs, and the biggest thing for me is comfort. The ANR headsets actually reduce less noise then the PNR headsets because most of the noise in the CRJ is windnoise. I'd say if you plan on flying the metro for a good chunk of time, invest in the BOSE X's. | |

| I started to fly the brasilia with my standard 13.4's. I couldnt tell how loud it was until I bought the bose X's. I don't know why I didn't go deaf. It's been one year to the day and I am glad I spent every penny. Well worth $995 for your hearing. It definetely helps to reduce fatigue. You dont feel as tired at the end of the day. I think your next step would be setting up a inflatable autopilot in that metro! ![]() |

| I have a pair of Bose, and they are great. I have a pair of DC H10 13.4 that are also great. I have a pair of Telex 750's I use in the Dash 8 because we dont use the intercom, and the flight deck is pretty quiet. Its all personal preference. |

Bottom line is Ignorance is Bliss - this is why Bose continues to be so successful as their aggressive marketing is so persuasive that even when people find out the truth behind the quality of Bose (or lack thereof) they continue to buy their overpriced products. Additionally, due to the fact that American consumers buy products that will bring them pride of ownership by hearing other people say "Oh wow, you have a Bose system?!" is just in itself another reason why people are so ignorant. I recommend everyone to read this write-up on Bose: http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html

| My former instructor has Bose headsets, but he told me to go ahead and buy the expensive DC ones that have noise cancelling capability. He said bose is very Fragile and no one can ever bit DC customer service. So I am actually saving my money for the DC ones. By the way he flies for Ameriflight now and last time I talked to him, he said flying cargo is not the best enviornment for those expensive headsets. |
