Question Know what you are flying....

So the other night I was watching the movie Blow and I wondered what would happen to the pilots if they got caught smuggling all those drugs. Is it the PIC's responsibility to know what they are carrying in the back and where is the line drawn from say a drug smuggler with the drugs in duffle bags or say a sealed box being shipped on UPS. I would think there is no way for a UPS pilot to know what is in every box they are flying so would they get in just as much trouble as someone ducking below radar near the border? My guess would be no but I dont know why.

*For all of you wondering I am in no way involved with drugs or thinking of smuggling drugs at any point in my career, just a curious young pilot.

To get into trouble, the gov't would have to show that the pilot knew (willful blindness would count as knowledge) there were drugs on board. A UPS pilot who transports boxes which, unbeknownst to him or UPS, contain drugs could not get into trouble.

Well to overanalyze the whole thing: I don't think Dooley ever said he was a pilot, just that he used to fly. In any event, I crack up every time I see them come in for landing in Mexico. It reminds me of that movie Club Paradise with Robin Williams. If you guys haven't seen it, the landing of this weird 4 engine prop (I wanna say some sort of De Havilland) is one of the funniest landing scenes ever and would be a good clip for a PFT/PFJ infomercial

I second that! "If you PFT/PFJ this could be you!" or "This guy didn't pay his dues and learned to fly at Gulfstream. Don't be a dummy!"
