| I was originally planning on getting my bachelors degree in aviation science through utah valley state college. doing it all distance education (over the internet) I've since decided to abandon that path mostly because UVSC is the most disorganized and simply rude place to learn. so, now i'm looking at my other options. associates degree from the community college 5 minutes from me, or back to a 4 year college.... which will put a damper on my flight training. i'm doing my commercial right now. I was also thinking of going for the 2 year associates in something I could add on another 2 years in down th eroad to make it a bachelors degree. but i'm really not interested in anything besides flying... so what has anyone else done in a similar situation? get a degree in business? My other decision to stop the UVSC thing was because I want a degree in something I can fall back on in case I lose my job as a pilot in the future. but talking to people that have an associates degree they say most places want prior experience and not just the degree. how important is a 4 year degree in flying? charter oporations? corporate flying? I always thought that it was 99% experience and hours not the degree you hold. |

| Where are you located? I attended a community college for my AA. Did 5 quarters at a state uni for my BS in Aviation Admin. It was fun, related to aviation, and something to fall back on if necessary. Search the posts as most would suggest for you to attain your BS/BA and then usually in something totally unrelated to aviation. |

| Get a 4 year degree. Essential if you want to have a decent paycheck in your pilot career. And you don't have to major in Aviation either. You can major in something else so you have something to fall back on.

| Why would the 4 year bachelors put a damping on your training if you're planning on an aviation science major? |

because I won't be able to fly full time to finish my cfi, or once I'm done flight instruct/charter if i'm away at a college. the 2 year community college is 5 minutes away and I could work something out there so I could still instruct/fly and go get my associates. | |

| the other thing I take into consideration is tht i'm working line service to get my foot in the door in a cfi position and charter operations. so I can't quit my job. i've already suffered through it long enough that I want to stick it out. |

| I'm getting my BS in Sociology. There are only 6 required classes and the rest can come from anywhere. Everone says to have a backup but if that happens you will more then likely forget what you learned. |
