Default Glass cockpit training a/c with analog gauges...

With glass cockpits appearing more and more frequently in trainers, how come GPS manufacturers have not made an option that would let you designate between the glass representation, and the ol' six pack, ala Southwest? Seems to me it would put the "is it good for training?" issue at rest once and for all...

It doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to program, and it could just be something selected on the aux page, so why not? Is there some inherent cost I'm missing, or just no need for it... Seems to me like it'd be a good tool for primary students.

Is it too late for me to go patent it and then when they make it, sue them?

I never thought of it, but you mentioned SWA having the sixpack style layout. I never noticed it untill you said something, but thats pretty neat. Can all NG737 PFD's do that? Its a nice feature, and I think easier to take in the nessecary flight info.

It's just an adjustment made by maintenance in the computers to revert to the "tape" style instruments on the NGs. In the ERJ, I've actually seen the screens where you can change our flight director from the vector style (wings) to the crosshair style. Similar with the instrument adjustment.

But that is a built in feature, no? The G1000s have none....On/Off. And you get to choose a sexy sounding chic or some guy who sounds like he did too much blow, to tell you about "TRAFFIC!"

My favorite part is when you leave TIS airspace, it goes

TRAFFIC..... unavailable.

Especially when you're in the pattern that gets tiresome quick

Then there is the James Earl Jones voice on mode-S traffic systems. "Traffic" and I expect to next hear "Welcome...to Bell Atlantic."
