As is almost always the case when a passenger flips out, it turns out he was (likely) on some kind of prescribed psychotropic drug. Travel and these types of drugs don't mix. People get off their med schedule, stress, alcohol, time zones, eating at odd hours, etc. and then they just flip out.

From MSNBC:

Mary Gardner, a passenger on the plane, told WTVJ the man started “running crazily through the aisle” after the plane landed in Miami. Gardner said a woman seated with the man ran after him, yelling that her husband was bipolar and had not taken his medication. Gardner described the woman as “hysterical.”

Using that same kinda thinking is what led to 9/11 when we were so arrogant to believe that we could never be attacked.
Also terrorist are smart they can't always only recruit one type more especially when there is a established profile. In order to continue to terrorize you gotta change things up and pull out the switches.

I'm inclinded to agree with you. But just don't like the thinking of there only being one "type" of a suspect. More especilly as it relates to terrorism.

Before I dig myself into a hole, the FAM was acting in accordance with training, as far as I can dig up on news sites. That's his/her job. I have no problem with that. The training on the other hand...??

The program is justified if they never have to shoot somebody. Their existence should be that of a deterrent.

That's almost like saying that police officers need to regularly shoot people to justify their weapons.

yeah, why... I'd much rather see them blow up an airplane than get blasted by an air marshall

Nah, I don't particularly like cops

There is no way that a LEO can tell whether an individual running amok in an enclosed space threatening lives is either mentally ill or a verifiable threat. However, it always comes out in the media, "How could that police officer kill a mentally ill man?" Well because he was acting violent and threatening people, and in the heat of moments like this you cannot distinguish the difference.

People cry that we must treat those with disabilities the same as those without. But then when someone with a disability or mental disorder does something or says something threatening, we are supposed to make the distiniction? I don't buy it. May be holding an unpopular opinion here, but that's just my take. If he was in fact running the aisles with a backpack, saying he had a bomb, then attempted to open said backpack when told by law enforcement to "freeze", he was in error. This then lead to them using lethal force to protect the lives of all innocents on board and in the immediate area.

Living with someone in law enforcement for my entire life (my Dad), I will tell you that the last thing that any cop wants to do is draw his weapon. Psychiatrist tests try to weed out the gunslingers. Most cops try to avoid physical confrontation at all costs, until it is necessary to use it. This would be a perfect case of when an officer felt it was necessary to use the last resort.

Well if we think like that, another attack is going to happen, but it wont be a middle eastern male.

Why does it always come to racial profiling? Damn..dont people understand?

Lets watch black people...they are known for stealing.

Like that?
