NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A small plane carrying White House chief of staff Andrew Card had to make an emergency landing today in Nashville, Tennessee.
Officials say the twin-engine plane landed after smoke began pouring into the cockpit.
There were 13 people on the Gulfstream 4 plane bound for Washington from Texas, where Card had been meeting with President Bush at his ranch in Crawford. No one was injured.
A spokeswoman for Nashville International Airport says they thought there was some problem with the instruments but they weren't sure what was causing the smoke.
A White House spokesman says they decided to be safe rather than sorry and that it was a "fairly routine matter."

Some guys at my airline call an MD80 a light twin. The 76ER carries more fuel than the -80 weighs at max gross.

So the emergency landing or the smoke in the cockpit was "fairly routine"? I didn't think either was "routine".
