Hi everyone, I am coming for the interviews on the 4th-5th. More people keep posting about the dorm food- either more people are getting hired or it must be a touchy subject... Can't wait to meet some of you and check this place out- sounds like a really great opportunity and fun (other than the food?) environment. Will we have our own rooms when we stay Thurs night? Also, are we supposed to bring a sleeping bag? I don't have one up here, but could maybe try to round one up. Do we eat in the cafeteria? How would you guys describe the main focus of the interview? Any ideas for what to focus on this week in preparation (besides what's been posted already)? Thanks. Last edited by NORCAL pilot; April 29th, 2006 at 14:20. |

I just came back from the interview last thur/fri, dorm food was chinese type food every meal, mystery meat. you get a room with a bathroom and a twin bed as long as your stay may be. the main focus of the interview was that whats going on there is a huge collaborative effort on all the cfis part. they are looking for team players. All the cfis there were close knit and very dedicated. I saw no red flags there, great operation. Thurs morn you take a long-ass test on every subject, id say just review everything. Then you do a HR/tech interview w/ the chief and asst cheif, they ask you questions on sectionals enroute and approach charts, as well as systems and aerodynamics. On Friday you go on a flight, I did short TO/LNDG, slw flight, stalls, steep turns. Have fun and good luck.

Seriously: the food is free. If there's a bizarre meal once or twice per week I can deal with that. I don't know of many places that offer 21 free meals a week to their CFIs, and it's still a great deal even if you just come in once in a while and grab a bowl of rice and a soda. Quote:

You will be busy at this job; I logged 80.0 hours of pay in the last two weeks of April and flew 90 hours during the entire month of April. Great group of instructors.

I was out for the interview on 4/27-28. I will be joining you guys some time in June. The test was long, not difficult. The first 50 were essay but not too bad. The multiple choice was weird. It wasn't hard but the questions were the "neat to know" type instead of the important questions. Looks like I'll be doing a ground school in the morning and 2 students in the afternoon. I thought the facilities were pretty cool, and will be great when they're done. It was nice meeting you guys while I was out there! Just so y'all know.....the food was really good while I was there.....I didn't realize it was tofu until somebody pointed it out. I'm really low time so I'm excited for the opportunity. I hope the other guys I interviewed with will be there too. Thanks Matt for the tour of the area!

Good news and bad news. Good news is we are looking for another 7 instructors. Bad news is minimums have gone up to 800TT. If you don't have 800TT but do have a lot of dual given, or are close to 800, or have some other notable credentials, you will be given consideration, but most newly minted CFIs probably won't get a call. Congratulations to those who have been hired already, and good luck to those still in the pool.

That being said, call me psychic but I think they will lower those hours very soon. We won't get all 7 from Sierra, we don't have 7 that are certified yet. And when for some strange reason, no 800 hour instructors are to be found, the standard will have to be lowered. And having said that......I have a suspicion that the actual minimums we will hire someone have not changed, and I have a couple of theories about why we are advertising 800TT but I probably shouldn't share it over the internet. Bottom line - if you have your CFI, CFII, and MEI and are interrested in a job, email your resume to George Apostopolis aviator747@hotmail.com. You may get a call even if you don't have anywhere near 800TT.
