Sweet! I've done that approach in a Seneca...it was VFR, so ATC slipped me in real quick to land. We were coming back from Catalina Island with my other friend in a Warrior in front of us. The ATC guy was pissed and said in an annoyed voice "so are you guys one of the young kids from Catalina island too?" ...we quickly responded "no! we're from Montgomery Field"...I doubt he believed us because I'm sure he could see us on radar coming back from the 40 mile trek over the ocean!

Was that the autopilot disconnect with that "whirring" sound? If it was, it is longer than other autopilot disconnects I have heard. Just curious, does anyone know what type of aircraft that was? Thanks.

| Agent Smith | It's got a flat center window, like a DC or MD type aircraft, and I heard the "unnnngh'-sound of a stabilizer trim motor running in the background. But the weird whinning noise after autopilot disconnnect was odd. I'm not sure of any other aircraft type that uses that weird stabilizer trim warning sound. |

And since it was in Spanish, it was probably Mexicana or AeroMexico, both of which fly MD aircraft into SAN.

That whirring noise was quite annoying. Im pretty sure I'd just start kicking stuff uncontrollably everytime I heard that. ![]()
