| Old Skool | I was just reading something in the paper that said the Northwest AMFA union does not have a strike fund? If this is true, where do the dues of the union members go to? |

| Old Skool | [ QUOTE ] Did it mention anything about a MCF or "Major Contingency Fund"? [/ QUOTE ] Doug, no I have heard of the MCF before, but, have never heard of a union that did not have some sort of strike fund.... Here is a quote: [ QUOTE ] Northwest medical insurance can range from $400 a month for a single person to more than $1,000 for a family plan with various optional benefits. [b]The medical insurance will hit striking mechanics especially hard since AMFA does not have a strike fund. [/ QUOTE ] [/bold] |

| Agent Smith | I know we have an "MCF" can theoretically can become a strike fund if need be, but I think that's generally handled by ALPA national and thru assessments. I remember paying an assessment in addition to my dues when Comair went on strike a few years ago. I don't know anything about AMFA's system and since the media generally doesn't know a Cessna 172 from the Space Shuttle, I wouldn't get too worked up over the article. I think the big story is the split of the mechanics when they left the IAM to AMFA but it probably wouldn't sell newspapers or television ads so not many people know about it. |
