| Old Skool | [ QUOTE ] ...and just in case you forgot, The Salt Lake Niner departure is [still] a radar vector departure, expect vectors from departure control.... ...aargh, shoot me now.... [/ QUOTE ] I read on airnav.com that the Salt Lake Nine departure is a vectored departure due to obstacle clearance! What obstacle? Most everyone will say the mountains. When I fly into SLC I normally fly one of three airlines. Southwest,America West or Delta. We normally depart on the Fairfield Six if runways 16L/16R are in use. This departure takes us south over the entire city and depending on what airline I fly we normally leave the SLC area via BCE or MLF if I'm HP and going to Vegas for a connection. So why can't planes using the Salt Lake Nine dept. do the samething if heading east. Meaning depart SLC on a heading of 160 degrees and depart to the east when they have gained enough alt. to cross over the Watsach. I'm thinking 10,000 ft. should be high enough. Instead of the crazy turning climbs after the gear doors close and getting vectors to 280 to cross TCH at a certain altitude. -Matthew |

| Senior Member | It's all about separation between the inbound and outbound aircraft. Those headed east need to get up and over the wasatch. They turn those out to the west initially under the downwind traffic, then when high enough to clear the same downwind traffic and the mountains, they'll turn them to the east. It's a good flow. My only beef is that phrase has been on the ATIS for, what, three years now? It just adds more garbage to an already long ATIS! RTFC! Read the Frikkin Chart! |

| Senior Member | Longest friggin ATIS in the world. And I always make the mistake of missing the call sign at the beginning and having to wait through the entire thing. You'd think I'd learn by now. Well I won't keep up with Mormon discussion but I will say you are correct on many of your suspicions. It is a very screwed up religion. But then again, what religion isn't. Oops, off to the Lav! Sorry Kristie |

| Mike D, I would buy you a "gassy" Red Iguana meal anytime too. Sheesh, so sensitive. ![]() Agree on the SLC ATIS thing. Longest ATIS in the world. According to ATC the "Salt Lake 9 is a radar vector. . .blah blah, blah," is becuase at one time they had planes departing and turning on course in IMC conditions, without adequate terrain separation, and without permission to do so from ATC. |

Not everyone is always going to agree with anyone personal lives or religion. But your definately not alone in your worshipping practices so take comfort in that. All are welcome to these boards. It could be worse I mean you could be a Jehovah Witness. ![]() Besides you'd only be a religious freak if you danced in a pit with venomous serpents and got bit because you had a momentary of "lack of faith." ![]() To all those who do dance with snakes..damn I can't win for losing! -Matthew |

| yup, John and I for serious moving to Utah. Me end of Oct, John mid Dec. We're going out there because I hate my job and want to be a ski instructor. SLC as opposed to Colorado because the Salt Lake is a lot closer to the ski resorts there than Denver is to the resorts in CO which makes it easier on both of us (less driving). Right now it looks like we'll be heading out there to find an apartment Aug 12-14 so we'll have to meet up with all these SLC peeps ![]() |

| Feel the Jetcareers love. Actually that's what I like about this board. People usually leave their inferiority complexes off the forums. Yeah, I think we hijacked the thread, just a little bit. . . . . what was this thing about again? |

| I love how everyone bases Utah because of the mormons. There are tons of "free thinkers" here then you would imagine. Also there are probably more mormons in Las Vegas then SLC. I hate here personally but not because of the mormons,. Shoveling your driveway sucks and the summers are hot.Lots of people love it but the economy is in the tank. I make $12 bucks an hours thats more then 70% of the people here. |

It's just that the few guys on here didn't have turbine time before getting to SkyWest, and so were relegated to the more complex, harder to fly, and more fun Brasilia! And Chuck, a week off was great, except that I'm not getting paid for it and haven't collected a check in five weeks! |

| Ooh! A fun thread! Haven't had a chance to respond until now, I'm away pretending to be in the military for a little bit. [list][*]Dougie's comin' to the city o' salt! Red Iguana is only the tip of the iceberg, my friend! And with friends in PC (which does indeed stand for Party Central), it's ALL good.... ![]() [*]For the most part, mormons are very nice people. SOME Utah mormons get a little holier than thou and conveniently forget the Golden Rule when it suits their purposes, particularly as it pertains to legislative affairs and codification of certain values into the the state's statutes. Mormons from other states don't seem to share this trait. Collectively, Utah mormons annoy me as they have a tendency to be some of the most intolerant people on the planet. They're very nice when they think you're one of "them" or that they have a shot at converting you, but if you buy a house in a heavily mormon neighborhood and tell the missionaries/visiting teachers that you're simply not interested, prepare to be ostracized in totality by your neighbors. They just don't like to interact with us heathens/nonbelievers. [*] JC'er CAVOK was hired into the CRJ, he just started class last week. I guess turbine time is the big determinant. I'd be interested to know where their cutoff for the AMOUNT of turbine experience is necessary to be hired into the jet vice the bro. A buddy of mine had the bare hiring mins, but 80 of his 100 ME was in a King Air and that was enough to put him into the jet it would seem. |
