You've got to get caught up on these things. |

| Old Skool | [ QUOTE ] The big problem was that for a 1500 sign-in in ATL, I'd have to be up at 0440, on the road by 0520 in order to be at security by 0600 for a 0700 flight arriving at almost 1400. Head spinnin' yet? [/ QUOTE ] [Austin Powers]Oh no! I've gone cross-eyed [/Austin Powers] |

| Doug, Glad you are coming to SLC. Let us all know "when". I'd love to host a little welcome party when you have some time here. I just sold my Scottsdale house, so if I'm not on the road, which is less and less nowadays, I should be around. Take care, Jack |

I have several friends in that town. Far too conservative/relgious for my taste. And a cetain religious group controls everything in SLC. Hell the whole state of UT and I mean everything. You and John have fun! -Matthew |

[/ QUOTE ] True,true...but the state and the Mormon church are desperately working hard to clean up the filth in Colorado City. Sure it's similar in Hilldale. What there doing to those kids in just wrong. -Matthew |

| Senior Member | [ QUOTE ] Speaking of supplemental income, were you already awarded SLC, Chuck, or are you actually going to be here for a while? I never got to try the Red Iguana, though I hear it's awesome. Mad Greek was pretty darn good, though! [/ QUOTE ] No, no, not yet. I had a mix up and got MRY for a bit but I am back in FAT for awhile. I am the next to go to SLC though but I don't think I will get it until 9/1 How's class? Are you done? I have my second IOE session scheduled Thurs-Sat. I end in FAT but I have a positvie space ticket back here that night. I'll catch up to you soon. |

The Red Iguana has mystical powers and I'm not talking about powers found in your lower gut an hour after eating it. [/ QUOTE ] WHAT?!?!? Are you kidding me? Actually the last date I had there I totally fell in love too. hmmmmmmm |

In fact, if it weren't for the Mormons this valley would already be looking more like the front range of CO. If you have to live in and amongst a fundamentalist religion, the Mormons are pretty inocuous. I certainly don't agree with most of their practices but living here is fantastic despite their control of the govt. In fact Mathew there is a huge gay population here. You should have seen the gay pride parade two weeks ago. They were doing their best to get a ton of shock value out of of the Mormons. Em, we'll have to coordinate a rendezvous when you and John come out in Aug. Let me know. -C |

| Senior Member | Nice, I wished I had a week off. We went straight to FTD and started on Sunday of Memorial weekend. I wanted to go to Telluride for the Mountain Film Fest. Oh well. |

| Old Skool | I'm going to have to pipe in here about the govt and mormons. The mormon church doesn't literally control the govt. in UT. What takes place is close to 50% of the population is mormon and most are very conservative. Therefore they usually vote as one group and the liberals are split into two groups as Democrats and Independents. With the conservative group usually taking most votes they take their values and beliefs with them to the Legislative system. There are actually very prominent Mormon leaders that vote Democrat. None the less it can be very quirky here that I will admit. I'm suprised Aloft hasn't piped in yet, usually he is one of the first on this talk. |

| Not all Mormons, politically speaking are republican. I believe the senate minority leader, Harry Reid is Mormon. If it happens, count me in on the Red Iguana thing. I at least owe Doug a "gassy meal" after all the information over the years. Fly22 congrats on the engagement!! When is the big day? Ophir, I heard a few years back a couple of F/O's based in MRY actually lived in a tent near the beach for a few weeks. (There's a cheap housing idea for you! ) |

| Big Chief's Woman | [ QUOTE ] Dooooode have fun doing the Salt Lake Nine departure on 16L/16R. Everytime I'm in SLC and there taking off to the south that departure takes my breath away. With the sharp low level right turns to 280 as soon as the gears is stowed.AWESOME! -Matthew [/ QUOTE ]not to mention.. if your sitting on the right side of the cabin on the way to SLC from PHX - you get THE best view EVER of the entire grand canyon! ![]() |

Em, we'll have to coordinate a rendezvous when you and John come out in Aug. Let me know. -C [/ QUOTE ] What surprised me the most when reading Emily's post about moving to SLC was that but her and John are pretty open minded intelligent (philisophical) free thinking liberals. Wanting to move to close minded, conservative religious dogmatic SLC. I don't mean to rag on SLC but when visiting friends I have encountered ALOT and I mean ALOT of close minded people who believe anything and everything that there bishop says and refuse to think for themselves considering it to be tantamount to blastphamy (sp). Not only that but being black I have experience some racism there as well. Which is to be expected as I'm well aware of the churches beliefs on blacks so that is water off a ducks back. What I really take pause at is how much the mormon church controls local politics. From news stations to the city newspaper (which don't quote me but I believe is church owned) then there is Zions bank. I just find it odd that a church owns a bank. They hold no monopoly as you do have other choices when it comes to banking. But again...I just find it odd that a church owns a bank. All that being said. SLC is a beautiful city a tad too small for my taste but absolutely beautiful site to behold in the winter when the Wasatch mountains are covered with snow. Lastly what is up with the rule saying that no building can be taller then the Mormon temple downtown...see what I mean just weird. -Matthew |
