| Old Skool | [ QUOTE ] 1 SOLO cross country flight of at least 300 NM w/ 3 points one at least one 250 NM leg [/ QUOTE ] I understand that this is without an instructor, but can the family go along? I ask as I have made a VFR trip from OH to MS and back with the family. Would that count? |

It's not a 250NM LEG, see previous posts. |

| [ QUOTE ] I see now it doesn't say that, but isn't that the way most people read it and execute it? Seems like everyone I have ever talked to about it interprets it that way. Wow. [/ QUOTE ] Not my fault that most people interpret it wrong. There's nothing to interpret. [ QUOTE ] So say, I could do a flight with 4 or 5 stops and as long as one stop is 250NM straight line from my point of departure, it doesn't matter how many points I landed at in between? [/ QUOTE ] Yes. [ QUOTE ] Or to put it another way, you are saying I can pick a point that is a straight line distance form my point of departure that it at least 250NM, and it doesn't matter how many times I stop between those two points? [/ QUOTE ] Correct. [ QUOTE ] If that is the case, I have already fulfilled my commercial long x-cntry requirements with one of my solos I did for my private as one of the points I stopped at was further than 250NM from my point of departure. [/ QUOTE ] Congratulations, now don't let anyone try to talk you out of it (I'm assuming you went at least 300NM total). [ QUOTE ] Am I reading you correctly? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, but apparently you weren't reading the rule correctly! ![]() |

Except for a student pilot performing the duties of pilot in command of an airship requiring more than one pilot flight crewmember, a pilot may log as solo flight time only that flight time when the pilot is the sole occupant of the aircraft." I don't believe that could be any clearer. |

| Old Skool | [ QUOTE ] but as CFII i was say it has to be done DAY VFR. For a definitive answer call AOPA or your local FSDO. Somehow I think doing it IFR is cheating just a little bit. [/ QUOTE ] Why is it cheating? If the rules say you can do it any way you want, and if you need in instrument rating to really do anything with that commercial ticket anyway, why not do it IFR? |

| I did half of mine VFR, stayed the night in PGH... but to get home, I had to file IFR. Ceilings were low and I didn't want to scud run through the PA mountains... You can do it any way you want/need to. Use your PIC descision making. That's the purpose of the flight. |

| Old Skool | Makes sense to me! I don't see why anyone would say that it's cheating if you do it under IFR, or VFR. The rules are the rules, and as long as you comply with them, it's all good. |

| This thread has been an eye opener to me. I had read all kinds of things into the long x-cntry requirement that wasn't there. |
