| Old Skool | I was just wondering if there were any pilots here with animals that require daily attention, like a dog, etc. With my time to apply to the regionals quickly approaching, I'm concerned about what to do with my dog during the indoc training, and when I'm a reserve pilot gone at least 2-3 days a week. I won't have the luxury of a wife to take care of the dog (don't need two people barking at me ), and who knows what the girlfriend situation will be like once I'm busy with the regionals.Am I left with the choice of having to put the dog in a kennell for the days that I'm gone? What other options are there? |

| Big Chief's Woman | look for a dog sitter! they come to your home and take puppy out and play with puppy for a fee.. that or finding a neighbor kid who needs some extra summer cash is really your best bet! |

| Old Skool | Thanks. And ya Max, I'm applying to Pineapple. If I get my CFI and buddy as my captain, I'd be pretty happy ![]() Once I'm done with ATP, I'll have over 700/200, so I'm gonna apply to XJet then |

| i got two cats. i have a few people i ask to come over and make sure things are ok. Plus, it doubles as a check on things like mail, AC, etc... I entice people with cold beer in my fridge. |

| Kennels are no better than animal shelters. Have a sitter come around. Peanuckle, scratch the beer, they like white russian more; at least mine do. ![]() |

| How about you hire some responsible high school kid who needs to save some cash for college - pay them $40 a week to dog sit? I think that's fair. Have them come over to your house daily for 2 hours (you must trust them with your house key), sit around and watch tv, drink beer (haha, no just kidding about the beer part), and be around the dog. Have them take the dog out on walks, etc. That'd be a fun job for a high school student. Plus it's tax fee money! |

| I'd hire someone you can trust to go in your house and take care of the dog - feeding, letting it out to potty, etc. My boyfriend has an 'office' job but flies his company's plane for them as well, so he gets called on trips fairly often, some of which are day-of decisions to go. I handle taking care of his dog when this happens. If you don't have a girlfriend or so, then hire the neighborhood kid, a pet-sitter, etc. I grew up showing horses and we were out of town ALL the time at horse shows with some horses still at home, plus dogs. We had a good friend care for the animals when we were gone, and if she was unavailable, we used a pet-sitting service that had an employee with lots of experience handling and caring for horses. | I look after too many peoples horses - last week I looked after some friends 2, a couple months ago I looked after this ladies sick horse (had the vet out twice - vet fees of $1,000 awaited her when she got home). The funny thing is, although I would trust the people whose horses I looked after, if I was out of town the club pro would look after my horse - he rides her twice a week, is used to a more high performance horse, is down there all day everyday, and IMHO just would make decision I would be happy with. Unfortunately the Mrs. is slightly sore trotting to the right - I am thinking of going to vet school it would be cheaper then my weekly vet visits!! HA HA HA HA!!!!! |
