New supersonic aircraft will be develop on a joint effort by France & Japan. This industry is all over the place, some say fuel efficiency is the future, others are betting on jumbo jet's and now supersonic. ![]() Link |

It would be useful if It could be done at a low operating cost so seats don't cost too much. I hope this program works and they do get something out. it is amazing though, as someone else has mentioned, that the aircraft companies are focusing on different markets.

Contrary to what I have read by a few years on here, I know that Boeing canceled their SST project a few months back, unless they reopened it. Not only are there problems with cost efficiency, but you inherently with supersonic flight are sonic booms, and for that very reason, they would not allow the Concorde to fly over the continental US, just over water (at the very start, they did) as to not disturb anyone on the ground. You always know when the Shuttle is on it's way back to the Cape because of the sonic boom--it's just about impossible to miss. |

I wonder what will be next (after the 787) from Boeing? Perhaps they can focus on building a better turboprop. I had hoped that the last American airliner builder would show a little more vision, and that the vision would be a little more Pan-Am and a little less Southwest. /vent |

Well you never know, they will be looking for ways to reduces fuel consumption and noise. it will also carry around 300 passengers, three times more than the Concorde. if they can pull this off by reducing operating expense and carrying that many people and charging a premium for this service it might be a good idea after all. |

[/ QUOTE ]Concorde looked pretty sweet on paper, too. It was only once they started really working on the design and engineering of it that they realized what they had got themselves into. |
