| http://www.atlanta-airport.com/Defau...nstruction.htm As you can see on the map while hovering the mouse, Hartsfield-Jackson has a proposed South Terminal just north of the fifth runway that is currently under construction. It is scheduled for completion in 2010. Does anyone know what are the chances of it being built? And if it is built, what airlines would likely use it? |

Looks like part of a "master plan." The "master plan" for Houston is even worse-they have a midfield terminal planned, along with three more runways! I'm sure the approach controllers can't wait to see even more traffic into ATL. |

[ QUOTE ] And if it is built, what airlines would likely use it? [/ QUOTE ] I think it's WAAAY too early to be asking that question. Our time machine used to answer that question would more than likely reveal airlines we've never heard of as well as informing us on airlines that no longer exist...... |

[/ QUOTE ] I think that it may be used to attract more LCCs, but I am not completely sure. Southwest may use that terminal, and JetBlue may return once it is built. BTW it should be called the Z Terminal IMO. |

SWA will fly into ATL after DAL goes under. Until then, the airport is WAY too busy for SWA's "quick turn" philosophy. That's why they fly into ISP instead of JFK, LGA or EWR. Same with flying into BWI instead of DCA or IAD.

Are you sure that Southwest can't use the proposed terminal along with the fifth runway that is currently under construction? |

I'd expect SWA to be flying into SAV or another city closer to ATL by the time that terminal and runway are built.

[ QUOTE ] SWA will fly into ATL after DAL goes under. [/ QUOTE ] Don't you mean if DAL goes under? There are more then a few DAL pilots and family members on this board who that wouldn't go over too well with as they make there livelyhood from DAL! ![]() -Matthew |

[/ QUOTE ] Yes, because Southwest just LOVES flying into places that have high congestion, thus destroying their ability to do fast turns. |

Just ignore him Tony.... ![]() Realistically though if SWA wanted to fly in to ATL isn't there another airport they could use in ATL proper. Maybe for the sake of arguement FTY or PDK. Not sure if they have the terminal space already built. But if SWA says they will come I'm sure they would build terminals for them at either one of those airports...right? -Matthew |

Who would have thought they would go into PHL...The thing I hate is that whenever SWA goes somwhere, the city ponies up and gives them a brand new facility. Look at STL. STL on the SW side is completly new and looks like you're in another world. Then you go to the old terminals where TWA spent its glory days and its night and day.

I think PHL was a shot right at US Air, same with PIT. If they weren't going for a kill shot, I think SWA would have gone into RIC, SAV or some other city other than PHL.

[ QUOTE ] It's being built. For international flights, actually. [/ QUOTE ] Are you sure? I wasn't talking about the East (Jackson) International Terminal, which is under construction. I was talking about the proposed South Terminal, which is only proposed, not set in stone. If you look at the Projects Timeline, the proposed South Terminal is located on the map just north of the fifth runway under construction. |

I've been down there and there's nothing but Cessnas and a few corp. jets flying in there. They don't even have a terminal. Never been to PDK, but I'm sure that's too small as well. SWA should stay out of ATL and just fly to other cities in the southeast without so much traffic. |
