cypherpunk

Really makes me wonder if I want to become a commercial airline pilot, even though it would be my dream...

I will have to see in 6 years were the industry lies, hopefully it will be much better than this....

It seems it is those big guys up top (CEO's and what not) who want the $$$ all for themselves....

The industry has completely turned to [censored]. I feel sorry for the pilots and other airline employees that have lost their careers over these past few years. I hope it gets better sometime soon.

In regards to article 3, I took this sec tion from it:
[ QUOTE ]
More than 500 Northwest pilots still are on furloughs, and more than 400 of them are ahead of Smith on the recall list. A union agreement allowed Smith to fly for Pinnacle and preserve his place on the Northwest pilot seniority list.

[/ QUOTE ]

Is this a flow-back type thing? Does anyone have an idea of how many are doing that? If on furlough fromone company, are you required to give up your 'Number' if hired at another airliner? Also if one flows-back do they displace a more senior person or do they go to teh bottom of seniority?

From what I understand some companies do require you to give up your number should you be furloughed and go to a diff. airline. I'm not sure who..I think its more of the majors (but seriously, things change every five min.) I guess the hiring company sees it as: they are spending the $$ to train you, so they want to retain you. I'm not sure not what happens when someone flows back.

To clarify, it's usually the new (hiring) airline/company that requires you to give up your old senority number.

JEP:

It's not a flowback. They were given preferential hiring about the time I was a new hire. About 50 or so came over. I'm definitely looking forward to the last of the recalls since I'll pick up that many seniority numbers.

I was curious about that. I wondered if Pinnacle pilots were pushed out or they were just given preference when you were hiring. 50 seems like a low number. I ouwld have thought more would have come over. Also, did their senority carry over? Just curious as the pilot in the article was FO at NWA and then a Captain at Pinnacle.

btw, do you ever fly with MSP based FO's? I haven't seen my PPL CFI in some time. If you fly with a Kyle Stroup (sp?), tell him Jim said, Hey !

Nah they didnt get preference in seniority. They are all a tad senior to me and I'm a captain. Many guys didnt have the time to qualify for upgrade, so they went really junior.... all the way down into the 1000's right out of new hire class. Hence why all the nwa guys got captain slots if they wanted one.

I flew with MSP FO's some on reserve.. though this is my last week of reserve duty.. got a line next month.. and 12 days off at that.... woo!!!
