| A buddy and I are looking to buy about 50 hours of multi time. We're not looking for a brand new, spiff plane, but we want it to be safe and cheap. We've checked Skymates, et al, and are hoping for a bit less on the cash front. Rumors abound about a place in Florida that sells night hours in a Seminole for $100/hr, but I can't figure out where the place is. Anyone know what the el cheapo FL outfit is called? How about something similar? Some Falcon 900 time for $80 or $90 bucks an hour, perhaps? ![]() |

| Old Skool | This is definetly the place to bring it! To be honest with you. If you had a twin for 100 bucks an hour I would have SERIOUS questions about the mx of that plane. There is a block rate at my flight school for a Seneca. It is $150 an hour I believe. Not sure how that compares to Skymates. |

| Senior Member | There's an outfit, I believe out of Texas, where you can buy block multi time for (if I remember right) less than $100/hr. Now, I suppose this could be considered a PFJ type of deal, as you fly oil platform inspections, or something to that effect, in the Gulf of Mexico for the company. However, I don't see it in the same light as Gulfstream, or some of the other detrimental PFJ outfits, though I'm sure I'm gonna catch some flak for that comment. Anyways, I'm trying to find the name of the place, but you might do some searching on the net yourself for it. If I find a link, I'll post it here. |

| Buy 50 hours? I gotta line on a C-47 cargo op in the Iron Triangle area of southeast asia. Everything from med supplies to animals to "hard rice". And all WX, VFR too. |

| Thank you all for throwing the deals you found in this thread! I think my answer might reside in the clutching, twisting feeling in my gut when I think of paying for time. I've got just over 800 total time, but only 45 multi and (sadly) no solid prospect for multi-time at my current job until late next fall. I'll be at 1000 TT by mid summer. Rather than paying, I've been considering buying (or bumming) 5 hours to get the semi-magic 50 and then looking at Scenic, Great Lakes, etc., to build the rest of the time I need. At least that way I wouldn't have to shell out a couple of grand to buy the hours. |

[/ QUOTE ] This was discussed in another post somewhere but you are really buying 50 hours at $140"sumtin" an hr. From what i am hearing, the 50 hours of safety pilot time is worth nothing to the regionals. Is this actually true at all the regionals or not? |

[/ QUOTE ] I hear AirNet is picking up guys with 1150ish. You're logging PIC (once you hit 1200), you'll make twice as much as bottom feeders like Scenic or Lakes and build multi time and good experience fast. Just some food for thought... |

| Moderator | Not sure how it compares or what the checkout req's may be, but my fbo sells a block rate of 50 hrs min in the seminole for 142.50 per ($7125). The maintenance has been spectacular since I have been there (3 years). |

[/ QUOTE ] Even though lakes has posted mins of 50 multi don't expect to land a job there just because you sent a resume. As you know "competitive" mins are quite a bit more. Also Lakes has a history of an annual furlough in June of each year I believe (heard on another message board). If buying 5 hours of twin time will help you land a job somewhere, I'd say do it. With an average of $150/hr split two ways, it'd cost you $375 out of pocket to get 5 hours. I wouldn't recommend buying your time to another 'magic' number (100, 150, 200 etc.). That'll cost an arm and a leg. From what it sounds like, you'll be at 1200 TT right around the time you'll be getting into the twin at your current job. Then you've gotta make a choice - get it there flying instruction or fly freight a bit (6 months - 12 months) to get it and then go to a regional. It's a gamble - just make sure you weigh all options (especially spending $5000+ for multi time that might not help you land a job). ~wheelsup |

| Aye. This thread was born out of a dinner conversation about how much a buddy and I missed flying the twins. Finding cheap multi was more of a thrill thing than a path to a job. You know, one of those "Man! If we could get some cheap twin time, we could have a lot of fun!" Realistically, I'm looking at either staying here or picking up a turbine-multi gig that would accept low-time pilots. (Fear not! PFJ isn't even a shadow of a thought!) I am more than aware that 50 ME isn't going to land me a job with a major (or regional, or minor, or micro, or mini . . . ), but it's the minimum to apply at most places that I'd have a remote shot a getting into. Believe it or not, I'm a pretty patient guy. I'm in no hurry and I've turned down multi-gigs in the past because they didn't fit the QOL my wife and I are after. In fact, if there was any chance of actually making a living where I'm at now, I'd love to teach (single, multi, whatever!) for a living. It's just that lately, I've picked up a few BFRs in twins and have been reminded of how much fun they can be! ![]() |

| Skymates is $80 per hour per person for 50 hr block based on double occupancy (spelling?) I know we are not the cheapest out there but one thing you have to keep in mind when it comes to the hidden $100-$140 for twin time is. a. how many twins do they have? If you have only one airplane and it goes down for mx then you are stuck on the ground. b. What are their insurance mins? if you have to fly all that time with a instructor and not split time as saftey pilot then that will cost you alot more $$$. If they tell you that they dont have insurance mins and its only a one hour checkout then that means they dont have insurance. Always ask to see their insurance policy remember they do not need it by law. If you have a incedent or an accident then you will be tied up in legal fee for a long time. |

| [ QUOTE ] ... From what i am hearing, the 50 hours of safety pilot time is worth nothing to the regionals. Is this actually true at all the regionals or not? [/ QUOTE ] Did me just fine. I split $4K worth of time in an Aztec in the Lenair CRM ME Program. It was about $80/hr in back 2001 (when their now 3 hr checkout was a one time flight). Another guy I did this program with is also a F/O at my base. Maybe some regionals don't care for it, but it certainly didn't hurt me, esp considering the way in which it was conducted. It actually helped a lot in the sim. I had no other way to get ME time as I never got my CFI so I was pretty happy with what I got, plus it was a bigger plane than a Seminole, Seneca or Duchess. |
