Yeah, ditto.

The sad thing is that you showed far more maturity than this goober did, despite being 10 years younger.

A certain quote from Colonel Jessup (sp?), comes to mind. Somethin along the lines of "You F#$&@( with the wrong solder." I can see MikeD playing the part, sitting on the stand, screaming at this tool!

Why doesn't anyone want to impersonate my job? I don't know about the air force, but the life of a naval officer is not that fabulous. Surface guys like me and pilots lives in a nutshell: paperwork, paperwork, paperwork, operate, paperwork, bail a sailor out of jail, paperwork, operate, paperwork, paperwork, go home. At least pilots NATOPS specify they get crew rest, but underway, thats all out the window for them too, if you get 8 hours crew rest and have 5 hours of divisional work to be done, guess what?

Part of me is kind of glad this dude got called out, but part of me feels kind of bad for him too. I mean, a big part of his life is based on flying jets in formation on the internet, if I understand correctly. I'm not saying that I don't get mine on an inverted LOC approach to RWY 27 KSAN in a concorde once in a while on flight sim, but I like to go fly and do other fun stuff when I have time off. Unfortunately, some people's lives are entirely based on their identities on the internet. For example, a guy in my division's is getting divorced because his wife is so into Everquest that she spends all of her time playing the game and doesn't take care of their kid. Some people are just plugged into the Matrix, and can't get out. Maybe this guy got a bad break from the air force, maybe life isn't turning out to be quite what he imagined it would be. Is that an excuse for impersonating a military officer, no, but I have a little sympathy for him.

I know a dude who failed out of the Academy and was getting shipped home, but the night before he left his company commader opened his closet and find a uniform with a silver star, bronze star, various other medals that he didn't earn and a Budwiser(SEAL pin). I guess he thought he had to come home a hero to hide the embarrassment that he didn't make it. Nevertheless, he got totally run through by the JAG and the administration at school. This kid had serious psychological issues that manifested in him committing a very serious offense that resulted in a federal conviction that will follow him for the rest of his life. At the time I was pretty fired up about what he did, but looking back on it now, it was really unfortunate what he did to himself, his life is ruined.

Hopefully this flight sim guy just learns his lesson and takes it as a clue to get out in the real world and accomplish something. Now I have to get back to fashioning my internet alter ego as millionare porn star blue angels pilot.

Thunderbirds in October of 2004 and flies the
#1 jet, leading all virtual air demonstrations
and is in charge of the flight Team. Colonel
McPeek has been flying 11 years in small
aircraft, attaining 6000 hours. He has also
logged 2300 hours in F-16C/D aircraft at Hill
AFB as an Air Force Fighter Pilot. Most of his
online flying is in the Lago F-16."

[/ QUOTE ]And I'm guessing that there are no 26 y/o Lieutenant Colonels anywhere in the services. Loser.

[/ QUOTE ]am I missing something or did you all not see the "virtual" on there? if it's virtual, doesn't that mean he KNOWS he's not USAF IRL but claims to be USAF *virtually* - as in he's created himself as an officer in "computer world"?

whether or not it's true, the IRL USAF should strip him of his *virtual* life and make sure he understands well and clear of the affects IRL?!

[/ QUOTE ]

No, On fs2004.com and other sources he claims to be a 'real' Fighter pilot. He has posted on forums 'Yay!! I just completed my 6,000th hour..' etc..

[ QUOTE ]
I hate these people! They keep on ruining the image of flight simmers. This is not what regular flight simmers are like, at least not where I hang out. This website is obviously the a.net of flight simulation. Bunch of freaks! (Not about everyone in that website, just the majority who this applies to).

[/ QUOTE ]

One year ago fs2004.com was NOT like this, It was a small community, with simmers similar to what you would be used to. Eventually it expanded, We had 'new' 12 year olds running around claiming to be Pilots, (Aka Posers) and alot of 'crap' you would see at a.net

dolbinau,
Don't take my previous post the wrong way. It wasn't geared towards you persay. This website is for those who are aspiring, training, to be, or who are currently regional, corprate, freight, and major pilots. I like others on here flightsim, but I'm also a real pilot who is training to get to the airlines.
MSFS is a really good tool for learning instrument navigation. We just don't want a bunch of flightsimmers (just flightsimming) to come over here to hang out and post about flightsimming. If you're an aspiring pilot and want to genuinly learn to fly for a living, then post away. We don't want the bogus pilots and posers here at all! We're pretty good at sniffing out the fakes, and we'll call them out.
Ok, I understand your point

For those not aware, a 'Virtual Airline' Is a group of Simmers who build up and 'log' hours, completing tasks and performing flights similar to the 'real thing'.

In this case, the Virtual Thunderbirds trained together in a FS Multiplayer session and eventually was going to perform shows etc.. on FS.

I guess we're going to have to throw a "NetworkJC.AU" for the Aussies one of these days, welcome!

I guess I just never understood the mentality that some people have that need to be things that they aren't. What's impressive, at least to me, isn't the guy with the big house up the street with the S-series Mercedes and the wife with the perfectly sculpted silicone boobs, but the average guy who works an honest day for an honest days work and still has time to spend with his family.

But that's just me!

Well, sometimes, but that's a whole 'nother story.

I'm a little heavy-handed in moderation here sometimes, but it helps keep the environment where a wanna-be can chat with seasoned military pilots, experienced airline pilots, brand new CFI's or people that just have a basic thirst for all things aviation. We're all on the same level, of sorts, from the high schooler straight across to the retired pilot because we're all here for the same reason. Oh, and spouses and significant others are especially welcomed too, because they bring an aspect that us wing-nuts tend to forget about.

A retired NWA pilot came on by the booth and was looking at some pictures of old airplanes we have. He spent about 20 minutes talking about the planes until his wife said, honey, let's go. I'm sitting there enjoying the history lesson, and his wife is all but tugging on his shirt to get him to leave.

BTW, Doug, I gotta PM you to see if you know someone.

gotta remember that us wives hear stuff like that almost on a consistent basis and if i were in the situation, i would have left him talking to you & gone elsewhere until he was done...

but lots of women don't always want to sit there listening to the same ol history stuff, esp if they're waiting for hubby to stop talking and move on - to be honest, we get bored - or at least, sometimes I get bored!

I mean, you wouldn't want us girls talking scrapbooking or something like shoes for who knows how long like that - you'd get bored too!

I just started really getting into digital scrapbooking, so much cheaper, faster, more you can do with it, and you have a back up (no worry about losing your priceless albums in a flood or fire!)

Ok, lets take over this whole thread and keep talking about girlie stuff!! LOL

So how do you do digital scrapbooking? I did a couple of ones on paper when I was in HS, but to be honest I really don't have the time to do that anymore, so digital sounds good!

With programs like Photoshop! When I get a good portfolio I'll post it on our girls pilot message board so we don't irritate the boys here! In the mean time you can go to sites like scrapbookbytes.com and view other peoples galleries.

That's what I had been doing, but then I realized I was spending some times a couple dollars for one page just to put all the cute crap on it, and covering a page w/ cute crap makes it really thick, so Caleb's first year took up like a huge album and I realized if I kept at it like that, he'd have 18 albums by the time he's an adult, and he's only the first kid! By using photoshop to put fake buttons and ribbons and tags on it, it still looks cute but is as thin as one piece of paper, and it doesn't take an hour to do one page like it does when you have to cut out and glue everything. The fact that I can print as many as I want is the coolest part too, I can have an album printed to give him, but still have a copy of all of it for me w/o having to start from scratch.
