Curious if anybody has been to China? I am looking recommendations on reasonable places to stay in Peking. Plus, basic advise on things to do and any additional helpful information. In addition, any experience of anybody non-reving there and back during the summer would be great. Thanks for your help.

was there a few years ago, just across the border over Hong Kong (shenzen, guanghou ect) my advice - take a shower/shave right before you leave, long flight - don't drink the water..even in the hotel, adjust to the new time zone now not later.. take lots of pics and have fun (i'm jealous)

oh also.. i'm sure you know this - don't pack your passport in your bags. Carry a money belt. Have someone copy your passport here in the U.S. so they can fax it over in case you lose it. Electrical converter.. blah blah i'm sure you know all this stuff. (I showed up in H.K. my first trip away from the parents/home and cathay pacific lost my luggage. All I had was my wallet camera, and passport on me... I ended up washing my clothes in the bathtub.. funny thing was they were still wet when I got home!) ok i'm done. |

been there many times, many different cities on layovers, from Beijing and Shanghai to Shenzen, Tianjin, etc. You ask about PEK. I've stayed at the Holiday Inn there, but that might not be the cheapest place. It's a nice facility, downtown, not anything like the ones in the U.S. Several good places to eat directly across the street. Standard tourist stuff is a must there, Tianmen sq, great wall, forbidden city, etc. I love it there, always a great time. |
