This is something I am showing you because I want to help you guys out. If you want to have a more secure pilot job, fly newer and better planes, then you should cross the atlantic, cross africa, and look into Emirates. Their smallest plane is a A330-200, and they say it's too small.Minimum requirements aren't that high, and time to command is 3 years. Here are some websites http://www.emiratesgroupcareers.com and another site will be posted later on. OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

By the way, you people may think that due to the geographic situation of the y that you will be oppressed, TOTALLY WRONG. Here is what a Canadian had to say (Dude, easy on plugging other sites, bro -DT) Now imagine yourself waking up, knowing that you will have a pilot job, going to your A330-200(minimum but they are looking to replace them because they are 2 small) and flying let's say dubai manchester, after 3 years you're in the left seat |

No thanks. I like pork ribs, beer, and the many benefits of living in the great US of A to give it all up to live in Dubai. I'm sure it's a great country but after your first month, an airplane is an airplane is an airplane. |

That's nice and all, but how would it feel for the family of a pilot to be uprooted and shipped off to Dubai? No thanks. |

Not no, but HELL NO!!! I like right here in the USA. I really don't care how liberal Dubai is, and how great that airline is. The fact is that there's allot of people in that region that hate, really hate Americans so why should I put my family through that. The only region that I wouldn't mind moving to would be the Caribbean and South America. |

There are so many white people there, Britians, Australians, Canadians, Americans, that you will fit in. I highly doubt you would have trouble livling in Dubai simply because you're American. On Pprune, there's this guy, Typhoonpilot[something], he's an American who flies for Emirates. He was a furloughed US Airways pilot. He loves it there, and said he wouldn't have hesitated to do it again (he said he was glad to leave USless Airways). Take it for what it's worth, I guess... |

I'd like to add one more thing, for anyone who is considering Emirates. The 3 year upgrade is gone. They are taking Direct Entry Captains (DECS). As a result, newhire F/Os should now expect 5 to 7 years for an upgrade. Apparently, it's cheaper to hire DECS and train them than it is to upgrade from within. 5-7 years isn't too bad, though. |

No Thanks. The USA is just too good to leave even if the airlines are currently having a bad time....

Now that could be quite an adventure...If I was single, footloose and fancy free. In fact most aviation jobs would be if it was just me and worrying about calling home to mom. However, I'm getting married next year and I don't want to throw things like that into the mix. I'd tell you to go for it. |

There's no way I could even think about leaving the U.S. Proud to be an American! And if I wanted to retire in some tropical region, I'd just go to Hawaii. |

If I had the choice of international air carriers I would definitely go for either British Airways (come on let's face it, they are the best ) or Qantas (a very close second ). However, I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for a job with either of these companies (...and reality quickly sets back in after a brief trip through fantasy land ).As for working for Emirates, it sounds nice and it would be great to fly their planes but I can't say anything about life in Dubai as I've never been, so I can't hold any judgement in that regard. It might be nice, it might not. Who knows. Maybe one day I'll find out. I have lived in England and the U.S. but am quite happy and content to be home in Canada with good beer and hockey pucks, eh!! |

I spent some time in the Middle East in years past and enjoyed my stays there. I've heard good things about Dubai, but never been there. With different circumstances in my personal life, I'd certainly consider living there.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind leaving the US for a job at an airline, and I wouldn't rule out the Middle East. However, with those mins, I'd prefer to stay here and fly for a regional (or even better, enjoy the fruits of my labot at SWA eventually) instead of moving my family across the world. Now if Lufthansa comes a calling......

| Senior Member | MOST of Emirates pilots are all expats. The top three nationalities are British, Australian, and Canadian. Here are some Emirates flight crews. (obnoxiously large photos removed -DT) I'll say this, though... if I was qualified, and I was interviewed, and they hired me, I'd be the FIRST one out to DXB !!! |

And for the equipment they're flying, they seem considerably young too. It seems like a great opportunity if Dubai really ins't a bad place to live.

If anything ever happened to my job (unlikely), I'd go to Emirates in a second. DXB is a great place, and the company is a great airline. Actually, the manager of their training and standards (as well as their pilot recruitment) is a friend of mine, and I would not mind working for him at all!

[ QUOTE ] ... great US of A to give it all up to live in Dubai. I'm sure it's a great country.... [/ QUOTE ] Dubai is not a country - it is actually a city! Dubai is considered the new Hong Kong - a dynamic, multicultural center were there is ample opportunity to go around! Emirates is considered one of the best airlines in the sky today, they probably have taken over from BA, and Singapore. |

I'd love to go there if the rest of the region was a bit more stable. If that happened I'd be there in a heartbeat. I'd much rather go to asia though. I think I could live the rest of my life in Japan and be happy.

I dunno, perhaps I'm the odd man out here, but considering the dangerous state of US/Middle East relations, you couldn't pay me enough to voluntarily move there just to fly airplanes. I'd certainly feel like a deer in the woods of Wisconsin "in season". Hell, I can fly a Cessna in Arizona and get the fix. |
